We are fortunate part of the Beartooth Front is somewhat protected, so far. SE of town, below the East Bench. Meeteetsee Trail Rd. to Face of the Mtn. trail today, about 12K hike from 1680m start, to 2nd stream crossing 2050m. Too much deep slush beyond that. 8C and lite NE breeze, cooler today than yest. 
. This part of the Front drops S well into WY. Much of which burned in 8 hrs. 15JUN2021 Robertson Draw fire, 12000 ha. Terrifying from town, getting close. #climate #montana #dogs #hiking
Spring is coming onto the northern hemisphere and with that brings thoughts and plans for hiking adventures. I was fortunate to grow up in a family that cherished outdoor experiences and molded me into an avid outdoors person. I’m most happy after hiking and climbing all day through nature and watching a sunset on a mountaintop. Such as this photo deep in the heart of Olympic National Park in Washington.

#DoomsDay seems near. At least, considering how dramatic and threatening those clouds look.
It always surprises me how much open water you can find, even in the middle of -30°C temperatures. Somehow, these small streams stay open for long periods, even in extreme cold. For us hikers, they always present a challenge, as crossing them over snow bridges or even ice is always an unknown danger.

Ranger Sarah spotted what may be a The Yarrow's Spiny Lizard, or Mountain Spiny Lizard, it is perhaps the most frequently spotted lizard here in the monument. Most commonly they appear black with metallic, shiny scales that reflect in the light -- but they can also have different appearances depending on age and sex.
