Hey there! For those new to DMV.Community or Mastodon in general, I can also be found in a few other places and I run some other services.

I run a instance for photo sharing at pixtagram.social. My account there is @jcrabapple@pixtagram.social .

I run a instance called The Shrediverse at shrediverse.net. It's like a lightweight Mastodon that you can use with most Mastodon clients. This instance is generally music-focused and anyone can join. I have an account there @jcrabapple@shrediverse.net where I share music-related stuff.

I have a personal blog at cool-as-heck.blog and a music blog at blog.shrediverse.net. I haven't been very good about updating them lately but I'm trying to be better about it. 😄

I also maintain two Mastodon frontends that anyone can use: elk.dmv.community and phanpy.dmv.community.

If you'd like to donate to support hosting costs for DMV.Community you can do so at my Kofi page: ko-fi.com/jcrabapple

Peace, love, and tacos 🌮

If you would like to donate to support the cost of the DMV.Community server, it is not necessary but greatly appreciated. Costs will of course increase as we grow and I will provide transparent updates around that. Every little bit helps and is much appreciated. I can't do it without you guys!

Trump posts that he will implement a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States from Mexico and Canada his first day in office and will add an additional 10% tariff above current levels on products imported from China.

Buckle up for higher prices!

I did some hacking at @pkreissel's implementation of a customizable algorithm for your Mastodon feed. I fixed some bugs and added a few features but maybe most importantly I streamlined the process of installing and running the demo app so you can experience the magic of his invention reshaping your Mastodon timeline for yourself with ease.

Seriously everything about having an algorithm adjust my feed to make sure I see stuff I might otherwise have missed has made my Mastodon experience like 1,000x better. The fact that it's (extremely) granularly customizable is the icing on the cake.

Setup should be trivial for anyone vaguely familiar with the command line. Even if you're scared of the command line you should be able to copy/paste the 3 commands listed in the installation instructions, all of which are in the GitHub repo:

Spoutible joins the starter pack trend and adds shareable lists, calling them Community Bundles. An interesting aspect is that bundles are synced. If the author adds, removes or otherwise edits their bundle, the changes are automatically seen by anyone subscribed to it.

I’ve been using #NotebookLM for my grad notes and it’s pretty impressive. The podcasts it produces from your source documents are surprisingly realistic and in-depth. One interesting thing I’ve noticed though, feeding it lecture notes and transcripts on data analysis, is that it often adds cautions about ethical considerations and the need for privacy and regulations to keep people safe.

I… I’m not sure the #AI got the memo that it’s supposed to do big daddy Goog’s bidding and destroy humanity.
