The future of #DataRetention is being re-shaped right now.

This week, the European Commission announced an impact assessment, eventually leading to new data retention rules at EU level, as part of its European Internal Security Strategy, #EUProtect.

Time for a policy deep dive: Last year, the CJEU ruled on the French #HADOPI data retention system and revised parts of its earlier jurisprudence. Read about the implications of this judgement for what comes next: edri.org/our-work/cjeu-saved-t

It’s more than a little creepy having AI monitor student laptop conversations and messaging.

Just like it is monitoring communication between adults for potential crime indicators.

These issues are only going to grow.

And don’t believe for a second your data is safer in the EU.

What a messy problem.

❗Beware: Not a single line of this document can be considered a basis for any discussion. This is because the group is non-transparent, undemocratic, politically biased and works with the Going Dark myth, which assumes that law enforcement and security can only be achieved through more surveillance.

#introduction Hi all, I am Jesper Lund, chairman of the Danish EDRi member IT-Pol itpol.dk/presentation-of-it-po I hope to gradually replace my Twitter presence (twitter.com/je5perl) with the fediverse!

I will toot about EU policy areas that I work on with EDRi (#dataretention, #PNR, #ePrivacy, #eEvidence, #NetNeutrality, #biometrics, #encryption and #ChatControl, aka the CSA Regulation), as well as comments on digital rights issues in general.
