Today’s #ThreeGoodThings:

- I tried something new in my lecture at the last minute and it actually worked really well!
- I enjoyed being the guest speaker at the Inclusive UC Challenge event launch (a Uni of Canterbury social challenge for students - this year they are tasked with designing an inclusive event, which is what I’m passionate about)
- I had a nice but slow walk home in the last of the sunny warmth after a big day!

A quotation from Horace

Apollo: all I ask is what I own already,
And the peace to enjoy it, sound in body
And mind, and a promise of honor
In old age, and to go on singing to the end.

[Frui paratis et valido mihi
Latoë, dones, et precor, integra
Cum mente; nec turpem senectam
Degere, nec cithara carentem.]

Horace (65-8 BC) Roman poet, satirist, soldier, politician [Quintus Horatius Flaccus]
Odes [Carmina], Book 1, # 31, l. 17ff (1.31.17-20) (23 BC) [tr. Raffel (1983)]

Today’s #ThreeGoodThings
- I finished my course prep!*
- hubby’s back has improved further
- we had crumbed gurnard and salad for tea

#SimpleThings #Blessings

* Two simple words that, in my case, means revising and updating 12 weeks of lecture/seminar/workshop slides, video explainer recordings, textbook and journal articles for course readings, discussion board activities, assessments, short welcome videos, student prep notes and course outlines (syllabus) for 3 courses! Whew! 🙃

A quotation from Horace

Hence comes it that the man is rarely seen
Who owns that his a happy life has been,
And, thankful for past blessings, with good will
Retires, like one who has enjoyed his fill.

[Inde fit ut raro, qui se vixisse beatum
dicat et exacto contentus tempore vita
cedat uti conviva satur, reperire queamus.]

Horace (65-8 BC) Roman poet and satirist [Quintus Horacius Flaccus]
Satires [Saturae, Sermones], Book 1, # 1, “Qui fit, Maecenas,” l. 117ff (1.1.117-119) (35 BC) [tr. Conington (1874)]
