"Matchbox" is a song written and recorded by #CarlPerkins and released in 1957. #BlindLemonJefferson wrote and recorded a song entitled "Match Box Blues" in 1927, which is musically different but which contains some lyric phrases in common. "Matchbox" was recorded as a #rockabilly song by Carl Perkins in December 1956 and by fellow #SunRecords performer, #JerryLeeLewis – who played piano on the original track – in 1958. #SamPhillips.

"I Can Help" is a #rockabilly song written and performed by #BillySwan. Released in July 1974, it became a big #crossover smash some four months later, reaching No. 1 on both the #Billboard #Hot100 and #HotCountrySingles charts in November. Although Swan had other charting singles on both the Hot 100 and country charts, the song is generally recognized as his #onlyMajorHitSingleRelease. However, Swan had continued success as a songwriter for other artists.

Musical Interlude: Here's a forgotten performer. Jo Ann Campbell was a female pioneer of rockabilly, country, and rock'n'roll. She started recording in '56 and continued on until she married in '64, when she retired, but racked up a string of records, concerts, and even a couple of movie roles.

Musical Interlude: Let's kick off the week with something with some kick of its own. Johnny Jay cut a few singles here and there in the late 50s and 60s, and played a lot of bars and did a lot of background work without ever making much of a splash. Too bad, as this early single is a lot of fun.
