Fascinating #folklore project: a #map of #folk tunes gathered by Oskar Kolberg, great ethnographer of 19th century, to listen and download. Mostly territories of Commonwealth of Both Nations (that is, today's #Poland, #Lithuania, #Belarus and #Ukraine), but also #Lusatia, #Slovakia, #Slovenia, #Croatia, #BosniaHerzegovina and #Serbia. Sadly, not linked to lyrics, music only, but still a delightful journey.

As Kolberg worked in 19th century, his works obviously do not contain recordings, but the map gives #MIDI, #MusicXML and #EsAC.

Had a good music session last night - our usual small core of free-reed instruments being supplemented by a low whistler, a guitarist and a banjo player; the latter two did a couple of “old time” songs, while the former encouraged us into a brief and enjoyable Northumbrian spree. And of course I took my new smallpipes, which went down well.
I’m looking forward to a get-together to play in the park on Easter Monday ahead of our next regular gathering on the last Tuesday night in April already.

Last night I listened to two Vic Chesnutt albums and then the first thing I did when waking up this morning was putting another on. Truly one of the most unique songwriters and singers of his era, I've been a fan since I was a teenager thanks to the endorsement of REM but now feel the need to add most of his discography to my master playlist.

I do this thing where if I listen to a song and like it, I immediately go watch a clip of the band live... and if they have zero stage presence (or worse, they have a choreographed routine), I lose 90% interest in them.

Yes, I'm shallow and fickle.

However, if I DO like the performance, I generally become a fan.

Anyways, does the live performance of a band/musician have a huge bearing of your opinion of them, or nah?
