The Capitello di Fondamenta del Monastero, located near Venice’s Santa Lucia station, features a mosaic of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, known as "The Little Flower." She is depicted in her Carmelite habit, holding a crucifix and roses—symbols of her deep faith and her promise to send a “shower of roses” from heaven. Set into a red brick wall and framed by a white stone arch, this small shrine is a traditional Venetian capitello—a public expression of devotion that blends art, faith, and the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Colour detail photo of ornamentation on a wall: two ribbons of white marble with scroll designs, set in a dark red-brown stone, rise vertically from a white and brown speckled horizontal stone. To the left is a strip of ochre coloured plaster, and to the right exposed brick work where the ochre plaster has fallen away. The ornamented marble looks ancient, and probably is - many buildings in this area have their foundations in the 1200s - which contrasts with the much more modern plaster bits, and a thin white cable which runs horizontally along the bottom of the frame.

The lovely canals of Venice. While the city was packed, I was glad that I spent a few days there and experience it all. We stayed in Venice, so it was fun in the evening after the tour groups had left for the day.
