While forecast #snowfall totals could shift, it is likely the #Minnesota side of the #Northland will see at least 6-inches by Wednesday night. The North Shore will see at least 12-inches in spots.

Minor #ice accumulations, up to 0.1", are possible in northwest #Wisconsin and the #UpperPeninsula.

A #thunderstorm or two also cannot be ruled out for Wednesday.

My forecast for snowfall across the Northland for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, through Wednesday, April 2, 2025 (as of late Monday afternoon) is for the North Shore to see the highest totals of 10 to 18 inches. Expect 6 to 12 inches over the rest of the Arrowhead, the Iron Range, and the Minnesota side of the Twin Ports regions. 5 to 10 inches is likely in the Rainy River Basin, with 3 to 8 inches in the I-35 corridor and the Wisconsin side of the Twin Ports regions. Snowfall will decrease to 2 to 4 inches for the rest of northwest Wisconsin, with up to 2 inches in the Upper Peninsula.

With mixed precipitation likely to mix in with snow showers Wednesday, April 2, 2025, some spots in northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula will see up to 0.1-inches of ice accumulation.

There is the possibility of a few thunderstorms to pass through the Northland during the next storm system on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. They would likely occur over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Small hail cannot be ruled out.

EVERY WINTER PRECIPITATION (AND HAIL!):

The past several days have been a smorgasbord of #winter #precipitation falling across the #Northland. That included #snow, #sleet, and #freezingrain.

There was even #hail with a couple #thunderstorms Friday afternoon, including the first #severe thunderstorm warnings for 2025!

#Snowfall is still occurring in some parts this afternoon. That will move out by tonight.

A list of the largest hailstones that fell across the Northland on March 28, 2025, measured by their diameter. They were 1.25-inches in South Range, Wisconsin, 1-inch in Wrenshall, Minnesota, 0.88-inches in Oliver, Wisconsin, 0.75-inches in Tamarack, Minnesota and Washburn, Wisconsin, and 0.70-inches in Superior, Wisconsin.

Freezing rain totals measured in the Northland since March 28, 2025 through March 30, 2025 include 0.33-inches in Wales, Minnesota, 0.25-inches in Hibbing, Minnesota, 0.20-inches in Silver Bay, Wisconsin, 0.14-inches in Ashland, Wisconsin, 0.13-inches in the Duluth, Minnesota area, and 0.13-inches in Herbster, Wisconsin.

The highest snowfall totals reported to the National Weather Service offices in Duluth, Minnesota and Marquette, Michigan as of 3 p.m. (Central Daylight Time) on March 30, 2025 include 8-inches at Ironwood, Michigan, 6.2-inches in Bergland, Michigan, 5.8-inches Cedar, Wisconsin, 5.3-inches in Ashland, Wisconsin, 5.1-inches in Ontonagon, Michigan, 5-inches in Moquah, Wisconsin, and 4.8-inches in Namekagon, Wisconsin.

The satellite and radar over the Northland at 3:45 p.m. on March 30, 2025, shows snow showers continues over northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula as it moves to the east. Cloud cover persists over the Minnesota region, with some clearing taking place over parts of Itasca and Koochiching counties.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Cook and northern Lake counties Thursday night and Friday morning. Snowfall totals will range from 4 to 8-plus inches, with gusty winds creating difficult driving conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Gogebic, Iron, and Ontonagon counties from late Friday morning through late Saturday morning. Snowfall totals will range from 2 to 6 inches, with the highest amounts closest to Lake Superior. Gusty winds will also create difficult driving conditions.

A forecast model run of wind gusts over the Northland around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025. They range from 30 to 50 mph as strong winds wrap around a clipper system's low-pressure center as it passes through the region. Wind direction is primarily from the northwest and north.

4:30 RADAR UPDATE:

Light #snow #showers continue to push through the #Northland. The focus has been just north of Highway 2 in the Bayfield Peninsula, Arrowhead, Twin Ports, and Iron Range regions.

So far reported #snowfall totals have been under 1-inch.

Kennt ihr noch den Spruch: "Ich mag den deutschen Sommer, er ist immer der schönste Tag im Jahr"? Das waren noch Zeiten. In Klimawandelzeiten neigt der Sommer dazu, ein halbes Jahr zu dauern. Dafür ist jetzt der Winter die Jahreszeit, die gerne schon nach einem Tag vorbei ist.

Es sieht so aus, als wäre dieser Tag in Freiburg diesmal der 21. November gewesen. Eine seltene Gelegenheit, richtig schön dichten Schneefall in der Stadt festzuhalten - mit meiner Lieblings-Kamera-Objektiv-Kombination aus Pentax K-3 III Monochrome und DFA* 50mm F1.4.
