So it seems that there is no way to register a new app on developers.deezer.com?!
How am I supposed to automatically download my playlists now?
Any idea of what I am missing?
@rainercade Just ended my premium subscription with #deezer after 2 months and went back to #spotify. Only reason was that it doesn’t work with my vpn, whereas Spotify does. It partially works but every day or so, it prompts me to login in again and won’t work unless I disable my vpn. I really liked Deezer. It’s a much better app and I didn’t notice any difference in the music recommendations (“Flow” feature). It just added a constant level of friction to my continued usage. Pity.
I am definitely enjoying using #Deezer
Did some more digging into this. Seems the issue is that #deezer doesn’t support the use of a vpn (ie, actively blocks usage). That makes it a non-starter for me. Spotify *does* support a vpn so #deezer’s comment about licensing don’t hold water. Here’s the discussion on their support forum: https://en.deezercommunity.com/features-feedback-44/allow-usage-of-vpn-78411
@adam_wysokinski @ruari please take #Deezer instead
Although I've had no response to this, I've worked out something like a solution. #Spotube got me the playlist locally, and it's #songlink facility meant I could go through each track and collate their availability across streaming and purchase providers.
I managed to find all the tracks on #Deezer, so got an embedded playlist working through that service.
Seems to be disagreement online about the relative levels of payment to artists, but at least it's allowing me to #BoycottSpotify
@constancies I'm not familiar with #Deezer but I did make the switch from #Spotify to #Tidal and I've been happy with it.
Tidal links to some third party app that can help migrate your playlists and such, so you don't lose your favorites and such
The "Daily Discovery" is nice on Tidal. Basically, you get 10 to 15 songs you've never played before in a mini-playlist every day.
cancelled my #spotify subscription. Anyone got some less unethical alternative streaming services for me to turn to? I feel like music streaming is pretty inherently unethical but I do find it convenient.
Right now I'm torn between #deezer and #tidal. I don't care about lossless audio, nor discovery algorithms, just something I can use to listen to albums I don't own.
Bon...
Today is #BandcampFriday and I'm not going to buy anything. Even though today most of the revenue goes to the artists, there's still a small percentage that will end up in US pockets, so that's a no go for me.
I do want to support my artists though, and extend my music collection. So what are the alternatives?
european-alternatives.eu/ mentions three: #Spotify (evil), #Deezer and #SoundCloud. All three are streaming servers, with a monthly subscription that is then thrown into a pool and distributed over the artists. SoundCloud does offer downloads of some tracks, but it's not a guarantee.
I used to buy music at #7Digital, a UK firm. But that's now been bought by #Songtradr, the same US-based company that owns Bandcamp.
That's not what I want. I don't want a monthly subscription fee. I want to buy specific albums, download them and then own them, without a single cent of my purchase going to the USA.
Any recommendations?
On my way to more #privacy and more #EU , I find it really hard to leave #music #streaming .
I buy #CDs , I go to #concerts , and still, #streaming is so much fun to discover artists and then to support them!
Are they all evil? #spotify is from #EU , but are they so bad at #privacy and paying artists? What about #deezer?
Another wild example of how threat actors abuse open source package registries: Socket researchers have uncovered a malicious PyPI package exploiting Deezer’s API to enable coordinated music piracy.

Loving the Deezer #streaming audio app for Android (#Murena #FOSS fork). It imported all my playlists and recommends great songs by less popular, more indie artists. And I've found some #podcasts that AntennaPod #search algorithm never showed me after years of searching and listening. Good riddance #Spotify! Deezer is cheaper, more open, and just plain better.
