Dave Rainsford<p><a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a> really enjoying it so far, seems to give me more new or different music than <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spotify</span></a> did and is working well! I also like the higher music quality, what I dont like is its 'connect' between devices is poor! Also when playing sometimes just adding a song to the queue is not working??</p>
Éric V.<p>So it seems that there is no way to register a new app on developers.deezer.com?!<br>How am I supposed to automatically download my playlists now?<br>Any idea of what I am missing?</p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/app" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>app</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/dev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dev</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>python</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/oauth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>oauth</span></a></p>
Eddie<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.ie/@rainercade" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>rainercade</span></a></span> Just ended my premium subscription with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a> after 2 months and went back to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spotify</span></a>. Only reason was that it doesn’t work with my vpn, whereas Spotify does. It partially works but every day or so, it prompts me to login in again and won’t work unless I disable my vpn. I really liked Deezer. It’s a much better app and I didn’t notice any difference in the music recommendations (“Flow” feature). It just added a constant level of friction to my continued usage. Pity.</p>
Dave Rainsford<p>Been using <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spotify</span></a> for many years now, considering a move to <a href="https://mastodon.ie/tags/Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a> - have trialed a few others and always gone back to Spotify for 1 reason or the other, anyone using Deezer?</p>
Stewart X Addison<p>Before and after shots of <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Chromium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Chromium</span></a> with my <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a> streaming tab in the foreground, and then switching to a blank tab leaving deezer playing in the background.<br>That's a huge increase in GPU and CPU activity just to move a progress bar along the screen for the currently playing track? 🤷</p>
stu :sdf:<p>I am definitely enjoying using <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a> 💪</p>
Eddie<p>Did some more digging into this. Seems the issue is that <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a> doesn’t support the use of a vpn (ie, actively blocks usage). That makes it a non-starter for me. Spotify *does* support a vpn so <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a>’s comment about licensing don’t hold water. Here’s the discussion on their support forum: <a href="https://en.deezercommunity.com/features-feedback-44/allow-usage-of-vpn-78411" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">en.deezercommunity.com/feature</span><span class="invisible">s-feedback-44/allow-usage-of-vpn-78411</span></a></p>
Eddie<p>I wanted to give <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a> a try. Signed up for premium membership, and 3 times in the first 2 weeks, I’m asked to log back into the app, and it tells me I’m using an incorrect password. I use a password manager! Cancelled my subscription. Guess I’m sticking with <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spotify</span></a> (on <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/iOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iOS</span></a> btw).</p>

Alyn<p>Although I've had no response to this, I've worked out something like a solution. <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/Spotube" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spotube</span></a> got me the playlist locally, and it's <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/songlink" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>songlink</span></a> facility meant I could go through each track and collate their availability across streaming and purchase providers.<br>I managed to find all the tracks on <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a>, so got an embedded playlist working through that service.<br>Seems to be disagreement online about the relative levels of payment to artists, but at least it's allowing me to <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/BoycottSpotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoycottSpotify</span></a></p>

constancies<p>cancelled my <a href="https://metalhead.club/tags/spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>spotify</span></a> subscription. Anyone got some less unethical alternative streaming services for me to turn to? I feel like music streaming is pretty inherently unethical but I do find it convenient.</p><p>Right now I'm torn between <a href="https://metalhead.club/tags/deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deezer</span></a> and <a href="https://metalhead.club/tags/tidal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tidal</span></a>. I don't care about lossless audio, nor discovery algorithms, just something I can use to listen to albums I don't own.</p>

gmc<p>Today is <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=BandcampFriday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BandcampFriday</span></a> and I'm not going to buy anything. Even though today most of the revenue goes to the artists, there's still a small percentage that will end up in US pockets, so that's a no go for me.</p><p>I do want to support my artists though, and extend my music collection. So what are the alternatives?</p><p><a href="https://european-alternatives.eu/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">european-alternatives.eu/</a> mentions three: <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=Spotify" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Spotify</span></a> (evil), <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=Deezer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Deezer</span></a> and <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=SoundCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SoundCloud</span></a>. All three are streaming servers, with a monthly subscription that is then thrown into a pool and distributed over the artists. SoundCloud does offer downloads of some tracks, but it's not a guarantee.</p><p>I used to buy music at <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=7Digital" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>7Digital</span></a>, a UK firm. But that's now been bought by <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=Songtradr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Songtradr</span></a>, the same US-based company that owns Bandcamp.</p><p>That's not what I want. I don't want a monthly subscription fee. I want to buy specific albums, download them and then own them, without a single cent of my purchase going to the USA.</p><p>Any recommendations?</p><p><a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=BoycottAmerica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoycottAmerica</span></a> <a href="https://friends.chasmcity.net/search?tag=BoycottUSA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoycottUSA</span></a></p>
