Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 515 , Wednesday 26/03/2025
Wednesday started unexpectedly at just gone 6am when the kids next door started yelling - it seems that it was Issac’s birthday today (oh for that level of energy in a morning!). I resolutely rolled over & tried to sleep but failed miserably, so I read my book until just gone 07:15 when Mrs S got up.
We had breakfast & I did a couple of chores & made us a packed lunch to take with us to Doncaster Wildlife Park.
We left for our adventure around 09:30, wanting to give rush hour time to subside before setting off.
Afternoon an uneventful journey we finally got to the wildlife park & promptly got lost in that huge car park!
We have been to the Wildlife Park at Doncaster several times over the years since it started - it used to be so small, centred around a farmhouse & farmyard.
The last time we went, around 12 years ago it had grown quite a lot, they had just added the leopard enclosure & now the sapling conifers they had planted have grown to a decent height!
The park has pretty much doubled in size since then, & now houses otters (one of my favourites) rhinos, polar bears & a host of other creatures!
One of the polar bears, a male, is pining after the his love, who is currently separated from him because they are so hormonal, he alternated between calling for them & sulking in a corner looking very sorry for himself!
We also saw some tamarins (the cotton topped variety) who were cute as anything!
I only had my iPhone with me camera wise as I had forgotten to get new batteries for the SLR. The iPhone camera is great for low light & short to medium range photos but simply cannot compete with the SLR on long distance photos!
We managed to get around all the park by around 2pm , with about a 20 minute break for lunch, & enjoyed it enourmously.
We got home sometime after 3pm dan had a well earned coffee & piece of Mrs S’s birthday cake to accompany it.
We finished the day by starting ‘Vera’ from the beginning again & had a naughty fried chicken takeaway.
Final Thoughts.
A really good day, I think that it will all catch up with me tomorrow though, there was lots of people & noise & shouty kids.
Got a text from the GP saying they want me to make an appointment to discuss last weeks blood test results - well thats not ominous or anything! (Probably just my cholesterol levels, they are very focused on them at the moment!)
Thank you to all those who are helping me on this journey, in a myriad different ways. I am thankful to each & every one of you!
