For several years I've been creating a #painting series called 'For The Moon Never Beams Without Bringing Me Dreams.' Each piece bears that title, plus a sequential number, & what I'm posting here is number 4 of the series! Just finished it yesterday, so these are crummy cellphone shots for now.

Submitting this for the 2023 Salt Springs Nat'l Art Prize. I'll keep you posted!

This is a photo showing the entire finished acrylic painting that is 46 inches by 46 inches, in reality. Depicted is an interior dreamworld space, filled with abandoned architectural features. The whole thing centers on a tall, overgrown hallway area, with the floors collapsed. The viewer perspective is from the bottom floor looking up. The structure for each storey spans out from the center like ribs. Other interior features exist within this framework, with odd perspectives that don't match the main one, or each other (such as other hallways, other rooms, and entire facades that wouldn't fit there in reality). This contained "world" is populated by several portraits of photographers, that seem to explore the ruins. A cameo portrait of the artist peers into the space from a centered window she seems to be outside of. Her scale is such that she looks gigantic, and makes everything inside the space appear dollhouse-like. The viewer is then made to realize that in order to be viewing the piece as they are, they must also be miniature, like the others that exist inside the space. There are also miniature portraits of the artist's family members, and beloved pets, and a blue Cutlass Supreme from the 1980's. The whole thing is a collection of tiny paintings of things!

It shows two teenage girls sitting side by side, with their feet dangling over the edge of a collapsed floor (in this world there's no danger, and they look contented). The light is low in this area, and they have a blue tinted glow about them from the electronic devices they are holding and looking at.
This is a close-up photo of a detail from the larger painting. The depicted area measures about 6 inches by 6 inches, in reality. It shows a black and white painted portrait of the photographer named Richard Nickel, as he is crouching and perched on the top edge of a fence made out of wooden doors. The fence surrounds an old red brick building that is in the midst of being demolished. Everything else in the image is full colour, displaying the reds and browns and greens of the architectural features covered in moss, mould, mildew, and the wear and tear of aging.

It shows a black fuzzy cat in a turqoise 1970's style canvas sling lawnchair, positioned on a platform fronted by a short brick wall. On the brick surface is the artist's signature, painted to look like graffiti that is spray painted on in a bright orange colour. In front of the wall are the purple tips of lavender plants that are growing amidst the rubble.
