#Trump has particularly threatened #universities over campus #protests against #US ally #Israel's devastating military assault on #Gaza after a deadly Oct 2023 attack by Palestinian #Hamas militants.

Trump casts the protesters as #ForeignPolicy threats who are antisemitic & sympathetic to Hamas. Protesters, including some #Jewish groups, say Trump wrongly conflates their advocacy for #Palestinian rights & criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza w/support for #extremism & #antisemitism.

…Now, #Trump’s 2nd admin is pushing US #ForeignPolicy ofcls to find ways to partner w/ #Putin’s #Russia, signaling that he is willing to part ways w/ #allies, including by staking claims to #Greenland & #Canada, pressing #Ukraine to seek peace, & shifting US resources from #Europe to focus on #China.
#EdMartin’s views in some ways track those of VP #JDVance & #DNI #TulsiGabbard, who have criticized the exercise of US military power overseas.

Day 18 cont 🥔🤓🎙️🔊

“Dutton told host #PatriciaKarvelas (#ABCAustralia) that if “negotiations were taking place, then surely Australia would have been consulted”, and if not, that would have been a “catastrophic failure”.

Karvelas pushed Dutton on whether the president had announced this, or whether there were any public statements on the issue. Dutton said:

There’s commentary I have seen reported from the #Indonesian spokesperson. That’s obviously come from the administration. There are reports of negotiations or discussions that have taken place between Russia and Indonesia. Pushing again, #Karvelas asks, “Where have you seen the Indonesian president confirm this? Aren’t you verballing him? He hasn’t talked publicly about it”.

Dutton digs in:

There’s comment that’s come out of the administration, out of the #Prabowo administration ... Dutton says it a third time, that there are “public reports”:

There’s public reports in relation to the claim that’s been made. There’s been a lot of activity between #Russia and #China and #Indonesia, et cetera. That’s a matter of public record.”

If you can’t win and you have no foreign policy, make 💩up about our political allies (Indonesia).

"Trump is ‘shredding’ credibility with allies while China benefits, former national security advisor John Bolton says"

I'm Old Enough To Remember ... when #JohnBolton was the extremist nut regarding #foreignpolicy.

(He still is, but he's speaking sanely here.)

It will take generations for the US to recover from what the #Trump regime has done so far. Even if a more sane administration returns to power, the US system has shown another Trump is always possible.
