#ALA Officers/Members, if you're reading this thread, I ask for your help.

Please add the account registration link to the ALA Connect FAQ on how to create a free ALA Connect account.

Please add Circulation and/or Access Services to the Principal area of work: dropdown list for the ALA Connect account registration form.

Please fix your Paraprofessiona typo in the Type of responsibility: dropdown. (Consider adding Library Assistant to that list, but that's less critical.)

Thank you <3 #LSSIRT

One of our library assistants is trying to make a free ALA Connect account (for non-members) to attend a webinar about IMLS' defunding and it's a webform nightmare. The ALA Connect FAQ on how to do it doesn't provide the account registration link! I find it for her. Then, the webform immediately presents a field they don't have the information for (e.g. ID Number field), which it turns out isn't even a required field +

Trump’s trying to gut funding for libraries: you can fight back with ALA.

The President's executive order to dismantle the Institute of Museum & Library Services would be deeply harmful. We need to speak out.

Take action NOW: tell Congress to protect library funding.

Following the Trump Administration's disastrous decision to pause most federal grants and loans, ALA has put out a call to library workers, patrons, and advocates across the country to share their library story. What would be at stake in your community with federal funding for libraries? What would you lose without long-term support for your local library? airtable.com/appTIEEt9RjDbjmv8

"Book bans are real. Ask students who cannot access literary classics required for college or parents whose children can’t check out a book about penguins at their school library. Ask school librarians who have lost their jobs for protecting the freedom to read. While a parent has the right to guide their own children’s reading, their beliefs and prejudices should not dictate what another parent chooses for their own children.

The new administration is not above the U.S. Constitution. Federal judges have repeatedly ruled that removing books from school library shelves based on the objections of a person or group, or due to prejudice against a group – book banning– is unconstitutional censorship that violates students’ First Amendment rights. Already several states have wasted countless taxpayer dollars defending lawsuits that seek to vindicate students’ Constitutional right to read freely in a safe and supportive environment."

I wrote the attached post for Masto.NYC after the #ALA published this press release: ala.org/news/2024/11/ala-vows-

My partner, an ALA division director, shared the press release with me after I asked her how ALA intends to face the coming changes. We've also had a conversation about how comfortable we are making personal, signed political posts on public social media.
