... so this is a book about an awkward, orphaned hunter and a cheerful mermaid moving in together and then adopting a bear, a lynx, and a baby boy, and it is all sweet and wholesome and how have I never heard about this before?!?!

Today I discovered The Animal Family by Randall Jarrell and there goes my productivity for the day.

in 'what white people can do next', emma dabiri unveils race as a social construct—something invented rather than something that has always existed.
i loved her voice throughout the narrative. it isn't just strong or matter-of-fact. it's fierce, it's frustrated, it's hopeful, it's kind. it is all of these things, and it is entirely one of a kind.

What are you currently reading? I'm diving into Andromeda Dreams by Garrett Carrol & Hamant Singh AGAIN and would love to hear your thoughts.
This weekend I started reading Everything Is Tuberculosis by John Green.
I’m enjoying all of the historical and contemporary stories in it about people who had or who currently have this disease.
While I do wish there were more facts and figures, too, maybe that will be included later on.
If you like history or medicine, you might like this book, too.

Currently listening to The Book of Goose by Yiyun Li.
It is excellent. Narrator and author.
Yeah... I haven't done the BDSM thing with any degree of seriousness but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to a) unilaterally decide that someone is your sub, b) lecture them about how they need tp pull their socks up and sort their life out, and c) threaten to kill them if they don't. #amreading

"Strange Pictures" by Uketsu, translated from Japanese into English by Jim Rion
Me in the daytime: This is not scary at all.
Me at night under the blankets with my ereader: ...what if I tap next page and I get jumpscared by a sudden drawing? ._.
This was a fun, quick snack read. In all honesty, I think the ending was a little disappointing and the solutions for the mysteries were a little ridiculous and I'm not even going to start about all of the pseudoscience. It's not the point of this novel.
The book did entertain me for two days while I sped through the pages at the speed of a pet hearing the distant rustling of a treat bag. They're short stories full of different text sources, images and clues, leading to a chapter at the end that wraps everything up neatly.
Reading this feels like munching on good popcorn. I'm looking forward to the next Uketsu translation that's coming out later this year!
