"The first of 150 #windturbine blades, manufactured in Hull by Siemens Gamesa, are also ready for installation. Each will be #recyclable, which the firm has described as "pioneering".

An aerial image of the Wind Peak, a large ship, docked at the Port of Hull. Three large wind turbine blades have been loaded onto the red-coloured vessel which is next to several large white towers. The Humber estuary is visible on the left of the image and the city of Hull is visible in the background.

“I created an addendum to Glauert’s problem which determines the optimal aerodynamic performance of a wind turbine by solving for the ideal flow conditions for a turbine in order to maximize its power output”.

The Insane Logistics Behind Building Wind Turbines. Hearing about how massive wind turbines are built is one thing, but seeing it is another. Last year, I got to visit the Bekevar Wind Farm in Saskatchewan, Canada, months ahead of its completion in November 2024. So, what did I discover on my turbine travels? What can we learn from Bekevar? And just how do they handle the insane logistics of building such a massive project?"

This, from U of Portsmouth = interesting — it's not the lame killing the whales nonsense that has no scientific basis (and is in fact counter to current scientific findings):

"...materials used to protect wind turbines from corrosion leach into... surrounding water... could pose risks to ecosystems, seafood safety and human health..."

"The bulk of a #WindTurbine – towers, foundations, and steel-based drivetrain components – is relatively easy to #recycle. However, components like blades, generators, and nacelle covers are tougher to process.

The Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has allocated over $20 million to develop technologies that address these challenges."

Warning: boring for most people.

One of our technicians received a little #windturbine branded model from one of the world's largest windturbine manufacturers.

And the tiny thing just had an official safety recall as there's risk of a blade falling off..

As that in itself is a funny situation they're owning it by using the formal Safety Alert system in place to deal with 1:1 scale WTG. It involves a multiple page analysis, explanation and mitigation efforts. Lots of time was spend on this 🙂

Latest follow-up podcast is out! YouTube: youtu.be/2FqmtznDCd8 Audio: share.transistor.fm/s/c3faa713 Matt spoke to Nicolas Orellana, Founder / CEO of O-Innovations, about their O-Wind Turbine. The turbine Nicolas designed can accept wind from any direction, horizontal or vertical, and is meant for chaotic wind in places like urban environments (think tops and sides of buildings!). Do you think this kind of innovation is worth exploring?
