Today #GeologyWithCats! We found this #drillcore it's a #sandstone. The white layers had large pores with #water in it. When #sediment was accumulated the pressure was growing & finally the water was squeezed out upwards-its a water escape structure.

In the foreground is a large waterfall plunge-pool, bordered on both sides by sheer sandstone cliffs. The water is clear, green and inviting, and a half-dozen or so people are swimming in the pool. At the far end of the pool, at a low point in the two cliffs two waterfalls are cascading into the plunge pool.

#Lochranza #Castle on #Arran is an exuberant mix of colours and textures. The stones are mostly green and purplish Dalradian rocks, with pale red Permian #sandstone tarting up the door and window frames, along with random bursts of colour elsewhere, as if the builders were playing.

View up at the walls and tower of a ruined castle built of a jumble of stones of various shapes and colours. An assortment of windows and doorways lead mostly nowhere; some are walled up, while some open into other areas of the castle or into empty sky.

Going With the Flow

A very dull and grey day yesterday so a tripod and long exposure was essential to get any sort of shot in the woods, even had to raise the ISO higher than I'd have liked to stop the shutter speed from getting way too long.
