Excellent episode from an excellent podcast. Brings me slightly closer to understanding Quantum Computing, but at the same time raising even more questions. Like are quantum computers Turing complete? This discussion suggests not, and that the problems they can solve are not the same as traditional computers, they won’t replace traditional computer design.

Researchers from the US and UK used Quantinuum's 56-qubit quantum computer to generate a truly random number for the first time, demonstrating quantum physics' inherent randomness and its potential for secure electronic communication.

The team's experiment, using Aaronson and Hung's protocol, verified the result's randomness across multiple supercomputers, setting a new standard for quantum security.

ScienceAlert · Quantum Computer Generates Truly Random Number in Scientific FirstA quantum machine has used entangled qubits to generate a number certified as truly random for the first time, demonstrating a handy function that's physically beyond even the most powerful supercomputer.

I've heard the claim that #QuantumComputing will be the next #fad in #tech once the #AIBubble bursts completely. The thing about that is that quantum computers seem to actually have broad potential for improvement of how we use computers. So-called "AI" has a very narrow scope of actual usefulness, but billionaires already wanted an excuse to cut the lower rungs off the ladder via automation, so they didn't care how many cracks they left in the façade trying to ram a square peg into a round hole
