Nintendo has announced that they're delaying pre-orders for the #NintendoSwitch2 console in the United States, which were originally due to start on April 9th, after tariffs were imposed on various countries on Wednesday.

News / Nintendo Switch 2: Pricing information has been revealed for Switch 2

Didn't have enough space to reveal this in my previous post, sorry.

The Switch 2 officially releases worldwide on June 5th 2025. For the console without Mario Kart World bundled in, it will cost US$449.99 / €469.99 / £395.99 / ¥49980 (restricted Japan only model¹) / ¥69980 (unrestricted model¹).

We don't have enough evidence of this yet, but it looks like games will have a price increase by roughly £15-25 on Switch 2 (for context, most Switch games² cost around £50). It also looks like prices will be slightly discounted if you buy it digitally.

Referring to Mario Kart World since it's probably a full priced game, it costs £74.99 for physical and £66.99 for digital. For Donkey Kong Bananza, it costs £66.99 for physical and £58.99 for digital.

Pre-orders open at different times depending on region. For the UK, it'll be open on the 8th of April on an invite only basis for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who have held a subscription for 2 years or more, has spent a certain amount of time playing Switch games, shares usage data with Nintendo and receives promotional emails from Nintendo. ¹ Likely due to the weak Yen, there's two different models of Switch 2 in Japan. The restricted Japan only model (~£260 / ¥49980) will only allow Japanese Nintendo Accounts and will only support the Japanese language to prevent resellers. The unrestricted model (~£360 / ¥69880) will allow all region Nintendo Accounts and will support all languages.

² Only major exceptions are Smash Ultimate, Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild afaik which are priced at £60 instead.

News / Nintendo Switch 2: More details have been released about the Switch 2!

Nintendo has shared more information about the capabilities and improvements that the Switch 2 offers in today's Direct. These include:

  • 1080p120 HDR screen (from the 720p60 SDR screen on original Switch)
  • Up to 2160p60 docked output (1080p60 on original Switch)
  • 256GB internal storage (up from 32GB)
  • microSD Express support ONLY
  • Built in microphone and support for external USB cameras
  • Two USB-C ports

We've also gotten news about new features that will allow you to make the best of Switch 2. These are GameChat and GameShare.

The former will allow you to chat with your friends using the built in microphone, as well as an external camera if you'd like, whilst playing games. You can play the same games as each other or something completely different: the choice is yours. This is available for all games when playing on Switch 2.

GameShare is a modern successor to the Download Play function that appeared on the Nintendo DS and 3DS, which will allow you to stream your screen to multiple Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 devices nearby using similar technology as the Wii U. You can stream up to different 3 consoles locally and depending on the game, you'll either get the same thing on each screen or it might be slightly different. This is available for a limited number of games from both the Switch and Switch 2 libraries, the casting device needs to be a Switch 2 unfortunately.

In addition to this, several games will receive enhanced Switch 2 versions. However, you'll need to buy an upgrade pack from the eShop or a physical store to enjoy this.

Before I go, there was no updates regarding the Splatoon or Animal Crossing series on the Switch 2. However, Splatoon 3 and ACNH will be compatible by the looks of it.

News / Nintendo Direct: Share virtual game cards with friends from April

Like the previous announcement, I'm not putting this in spoilers since I don't consider it to be that big of a spoiler.

At today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a new feature that's coming to the Nintendo Switch at the end of April (it'll also come to the Switch 2 at some stage) which will allow you to share your digital games more easily with friends. You'll be able to lend out your digital games for up to 14 days with either another Switch nearby using local wireless or other Switch consoles linked to your Nintendo Account family group.

Hope you all don't mind me posting this without spoilers, but I don't consider it to be that big of a spoiler.

At today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced a brand new app for smart devices called Nintendo Today! This app will allow you to keep up to date with events and other updates in the Nintendo world (including Switch 2 related stuff and Splatfests (attached an image of this).

seems my #introduction didn't migrate so here we are.
hello. i used to be on fosstodon at @jabster28@fosstodon.org, but running my own seemed fun so now i'm on my own #sharkey instance at mace.lol

i'm currently in university for a computer science degree (no i won't be homeless.). i do a lot of #programming and like to mess around with general #devops stuff (containerisation and networking mostly) in my free time, a lot of my mini projects revolve around automating this or that and making it work with everything else i have in my own ecosystem.
i #selfhost a lot of services for ephemeral file sharing and password management etc.
my main languages are #javascript / #typescript and #rust but i've been wanting to learn some #cpp or c# recently (i don't always want a program that's 1000% correct, cargo.)
(also css is genuinely an a tier language. insanely fit for purpose.)
i do some #networking and find it pretty fun mostly

i play a lot of #splatoon in my free time. i'm also fond of #mahjong, #minesweeper, and #tetris (modern tetris (usually techmino), not the official app) to sink my time into if i'm on my phone or something.

some more stuff i'm into that's probably more fringe:

#wikipedia editing is pretty fun, though it's rare that i'll get a chance to correct/add to an article that i know about and can source. doing coi requests is cool, though, you see some really interesting people

i'd love to be able to do #cooking faster but i feel that's only possible with enough time or money to cook when you don't need to (i have neither)

#libraries are really cool and i'd love to go to more of them and document them. working at one seems fun also

slightly related but i wouldn't mind getting better at #photography at some point (maybe make a pixelfed account?)

my only major political stance on here would probably be that #privacy is a fundamental human right, and a lot of things online right now don't let you control that as well as you should

i guess that leads into me liking #monero, there's not many other ways you can transfer wealth to someone without anyone else snooping. no, b*tcoin doesn't count, it's simply not fit for purpose.

that also goes into #cryptography i suppose. the mathematics inside things like ecdh is pretty beautiful. one of the reasons i'm going to university is to eventually be able to fully understand elliptic curves and a lot of the cryptography we use nowadays.

News / My Nintendo: Nintendo is discontinuing Gold Points

Nintendo has officially confirmed today that My Nintendo Gold Points will be discontinued on March 25th at 4:30am GMT (they'll be discontinued on the day prior for physical purchases). You'll be able to use them until they expire though.

Gold Points were essentially points that you'd earn on every Nintendo eShop purchase and physical game purchases (up to 2 years after release iirc).

Hello, I'm Elka, and I'm a silly yeen who draws silly animal people!
My main interests are drawing and painting (mostly digital though I've began exploring watercolor recently), #Splatoon, which I'm trying to explore the art style of, and #furry stuff and animals in general.

Until now, I post artworks quite sporadically, and not much more (I'm a shy person). I'm still trying to change that and be more interactive :blobfoxlaughsweat:
