#GrandmasterFlash #FuriousFive #MelleMel #KidCreole #MrNess #NewYork #SouthBronx #HipHop #Rap #Rapmusic #OldSChool #NewYork

When the brilliant 26-year-old rapper Doechii made history by becoming the third woman to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album for "Alligator Bites Don't Heal," one of her producers wasn't by her side. Spencer Golanka, who co-produced "Boiled Peanuts" and "Denial Is a River" was doing his day job, delivering parcels for Amazon. SFGate explains how it happened, and Golanka's reaction to Doechii's win: "She is an absolute star."

One of the weirdest pop-culture stories of the last few years — and this is really no exaggeration — was when the Wu-Tang Clan made just one copy of their "Once Upon A Time in Shaolin" album and then sold it to "pharma bro" Martin Shkreli, only for it to be seized by the government when Shkreli was arrested for securities fraud and then bought by a crypto art collective. Now, Method Man is explaining how the album was actually made. Here's more from the A.V. Club.

It's been 30 years since Outkast's "Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik" dropped. Here, Billboard ranks the 17 tracks on the game-changing debut. The duo of Big Boi and André 3000 went on to win the Grammy for Album of the Year for "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" in 2004, the last time that award was won by a hip hop act.

3 Feet High and Rising (35th Anniversary)
by De La Soul

“Thirty five years ago this Sunday, #DeLaSoul released “3 Feet High and Rising” To celebrate, they’ve released a special edition with some unreleased songs and alternate versions of old songs.”

“We was just three spaced kids who felt like we was doing something special,” Trugoy the Dove (Dave Jolicoeur), one-third of pioneering Long Island rap trio De La Soul, told #AppleMusic in 2018. “It felt good to stand out, but we were immersed in what #hiphop was at that time—the culture, the music, everything.”
