Swans, aren't they graceful? Um... yes, this is the #SundaySwan
It was a nice sunny afternoon down by the boating lake in Portishead today.
One of our most iconic waterbirds, the Mute swan (Cygnus olor) is famed for their grace and beauty. They are also considered to be a romantic of the bird world because partners form a perfect love heart with their necks.

I went out for a walk across Gordano valley and saw this Mute swan (Cygnus olor) on one of the drainage ditches.
They certainly aren't an ugly duckling!
Mute swans feed on plants, particularly waterweed. They usually mate for life, but some will have numerous partners.

The local cygnets, still in the grey plumage of juvenile swans, have begun to practice flying.
Lots of flapping and slapping of wings on the water as they get going. About ⅔ of them now become completely airborne—though only 1 meter above the canal.
They go 500 meters, from one bridge to the next, then return to the adults by paddling all in a row.
A flock came begging at the aptly named swan doors of the boat.
While feeding these white mute swans and their grey cygnets birdseed that sinks, they all demonstrated their Ass Over Teakettle skills.
Younger cygnets and dumber adults never figure out to dive after the slowly sinking seed, but these ones have.
Bird seed must be delicious and high calorie, so worth chasing.
OFFICIAL NOTICE:
We would like you to know that We Are Available, Willing And Able to eat more birdseed.
Don't delay. Now is good.

With it's long curved neck gently lowered, the graceful and elegant Mute Swan sips water from the pond at Puslinch Ontario Canada. The beautiful stark white feathers, orange bill and black face are quite dazzling.
