'Pond life' is sometimes used as an insult applied to particularly contemptible people but I feel that this is unfair to actual pond-dwelling creatures which, by contrast, are mostly harmless and frequently fascinating lifeforms.
Frogspawn is a case in point. You can see that our tiny garden pond is full of the stuff. Zoom in and you can tell that the embryos are starting to elongate towards the shape of a tadpole.

The container pond is now in place. I now know there’s about 30 cm/1’ of top soil before the clay layer. The soil texture is being assessed.
A pallet end put to use in making bricks from the excess excavated clay or providing mason bees with some handy nesting material before it dries.
Deer have been munching on the jostaberry so for now it’s covered in insect mesh until I can fashion something more permanent.
A chilly start of our Saturday walk, but the sun soon began feeling good on us. Some types of cherry blossoms were beautiful.

An old farm pond near the entrance of trail Yellow 4 in Hammond Hill State Forest I saw yesterday. Most of the state forests were filled with farms on land parceled revolutionary soldiers that ultimately failed because they were on atrocious land and got bought back by New York State
