I got my angel wings this morning from a fellow scooter rider. These bells are supposed to protect riders on the road. Hang the bell on the lowest spot on your bike. The tradition is that you cannot buy them for yourself. It must be gifted. Although I am not superstitious, it feels nice to be part of the local moto culture here #motorcycle

Have you seen those silly "viral" videos when one turns on the ignition in some prohibitively expensive car and the voice says some kind of greeting? I did and it got me thinking - how much is this "feature" overpaid for?
Since I had some time on my hands, I set out to check if I can build one on the cheap for my #motorcycle and apparently I can ;)
Essentially the criteria I set for myself were:
- cheap.
- as much waterproof as possible.
- zero maintenance

The first idea was to slap some kind of PiZero and program it, but I decided against, there has to be something simpler.
Enter Adafruit.
I got one of their SoundFX boards with 2MB of RAM which was enough for my .ogg sample. Some trial & error and a bit of research later is what you can see on the video:
- Voltage converter 12V->5V. I could possibly replace that with a simpler element but I had one at hand.
- Timed circuit switch working in "open once on V+ for the time set".
- Adafruit SoundFX board set to "trigger once" mode.
- Adafruit amplifier board (+6dB - +24dB)
- Speakers (4 Ohm) scavenged from a dead sound bar.
- Sample sound of my choosing taken from the Mechwarrior 2: Ghost Bear Legacy game, as it is the greatest game ever, period.

What's left to do: solder it all up together and pack into the speaker enclosure; add a fuse to the power wire; connect it all to my #F750gs

If anyone is interested in exact description of steps and configuration and board models, please let me know, I am happy to provide more details.

Overall cost of the whole (minus the speakers, I paid for the whole sound bar some £30 10 years ago): £27.

I have three social media platforms that I check regularly: Mastodon, Pixelfed, and TikTok.

I started using TikTok after I stopped using Instagram because I still wanted #Motorcycle content and folks on the Fediverse aren't doing enough wheelies.

Do a wheelie, folks!
