Nessus Sphinx Moth (Amphion floridensis) enjoying some bluebells this past week. They are neat little day flying moths and kinda look like hummingbirds, I think.

I've been playing a ton of Caves of Qud recently, so I thought I'd do a few player tiles for folks in my server and get some pixel art practice while at it c:
This first batch is all moths!!
I only use the front-facing camera on my phone for video-conferences. I never take selfies - who needs to see that ...
But this #Colombian #PlumeMoth (no species identification yet, but I did get some real photos of it) came indoors with me after I checked my #moth light last night.
I currently maintain the global species list for this family of moths:
The last moth magnet has been assembled and has joined his buddy!
Later today, I will publish the listing for them and the beetles, allowing you to get notified for their release!
This will allow me to estimate the demand and make a good amount!
Here he is!! The last magnet! A much fancier moth than the first one, and just as charming!
The empty listings should be ready before the end of the week so you can set a reminder if you want one!
Got the paints out this week. So here is a Moth

When I don't know what to paint I start doing those bone tiddy Halloween decorations. Back of the base says 99 cents but I got it for 50 cents at the thrift store lol
Will get some brown and yellow tones in, deepen the blacks later...
BUG MAGNETS
4/5 of the first handmade felt magnet prototypes have been assembled and I am so excited to make the last one!
These will be available through two listings: beetles and moths, allowing you to get them individually, or as a set.
I’m really really proud of them and I really can’t wait to release them into the world!
Light rain and cloud meant a few more moths (and a bumble bee!) came out to play at 'Chez Mothman' last night.
Still no real species diversity yet, but, compared to last year, #moth numbers seem encouraging. May/June/July will tell for sure.
First sighting in 2025 of the very unfairly named CLOUDED DRAB. Yes, like me, he's plain and unexciting, but undeserving of such an unflattering moniker.
After out alterations, we had @ahkaskar.bsky.social strike a number of poses to test the new fit!
Met this lovely Japanese owl moth (Brahmaea japonica) during a walk the other day. Looked up some details and they say that it’s pretty rare type of moth that we can only see during late March and early April. Think I was lucky
Milder night last night so chanced the #moth box. Still early in the year so very few species / numbers yet (roll on May/June). More Common Quakers (x4) & Early Grey (x1). Also first sighting in 2025 of Oak Beauty and Small Quaker. Moths on my finger today are...
1) Oak Beauty (top left)
2) Small Quaker (top right)
3) Common Quaker (BL)
4) Early Grey (BR)
A Bag-shelter Moth (Ochrogaster lunifer) clinging for dear life onto a sliding metal door rail, hanging precipitously above a 1 inch drop to the decking far below.
So hairy!

Scotland-wide search for one of country's rarest species
"Butterfly Conservation is calling for people to join a Scotland-wide search for one of the smallest species in the country.
The charity's moth experts are working to save the tiny but beautiful Highland Nymph from extinction in the UK."
This is by far the tiniest item I have ever crated with felt!
This is one of my 5 upcoming handmade felt magnets! Because yes, a little magnet is hidden inside its belly and you can attach it anywhere that holds magnets!
I’m hoping to release them before the summer, so stay tuned!
For #MothMonday I present Nessus Sphinx (Amphion floridensis). I have soft spot for Sphinx (aka Hawk) Moths - their pollination relationship with flowers is pretty cool. Ok I may be biased given it was the subject of my masters thesis, but still.

Found on a sendudok bush, this spiky caterpillar from the family Lasiocampidae was as long as my middle finger. I thought of bringing it home so that I could brag to peoples that "I has a pet lappet".
