“Two #BayArea #tech giants announce huge layoffs at almost exact same moment: #SanFrancisco design #software company #Autodesk is slashing about 1,350 workers, while #PaloAlto mainstay #HP is expanding its ongoing cuts by up to 2,000 people”

“…the executive joins a trend of shedding staff to reallocate resources toward #AI

Late with this article, still think this isn’t a co-ordinated program?

A la mierda #Adobe, #Autodesk, #Microsoft... cada vez más perversas con subscripciones, imposibilidad para darse de baja etc.

I don't remember why but at one time I had an #Autodesk account. Perhaps #AutoCAD had a free version back then? Or a trial?

Anyway, last August I received an email from them for some reason so, since I wasn't using anything, I closed my account.

Today I received another email saying they're forcing me to "upgrade" from Single User Storage to Fusion Hub. It only costs CA$130. Per MONTH!!!

I logged in (my account was still active) and deleted it again.

@barrysampson given the #licensing costs for #ToonBoom, it's good to see their #TechSupport actually invested time and effort.

Most "Professional Software" on #Linux is sometimes really nit easy to procure:

  • #Autodesk literally won't even offer me a #license for #Maya unless I sent them a Serial # of an eligible Workstation (i.e. #HP #Z600 - spec'd to compatibility from the factory) existing & valid #RHEL subscription and would only support that combo with the license...

So it's no wounder those that can't afford it stick to #blender & #Moho like @fuchsiii ...

Browsing through the new Extensions section (previously called "Add-ons") in the Blender 4.3 Alpha build preferences, I stumbled upon an extension that should be able to import native 3ds Max files. It even supports V-Ray and Corona materials. I haven't tested it yet, but I hope it works!

#Cadquery

Anyone here use it?

It presents as #OpenSCAD which I love, only you write #Python instead of that C-ish stuff it uses, and if I read correctly it's got a better underlying render engine. Only heard about it because someone did a #Gridfinity reimplementation with it, and all things being equal I would definitely rather use that than devil-begotten, temple-beridden, snot-encrusted #Autodesk products.

Like jeez man some of us don't run windoze.
