State Democrats held a town hall in Asheville to discuss the grim impacts of potential federal funding cuts in the region. @JessicaWakeman #asheville #hurricanes #northcarolina
#Asheville continues to lose nurses, something that this area with its large population of retirees, can ill afford.

Slow drizzling much needed rain on the west side
Good gods... this looks like the pre-Helene and Helene event in #Asheville. They predicted over 20" of rain which was hard to grasp - and it occurred.
Terrible to watch, especially with the likely emergency resources. All the best to everyone in the path. And thanks for posting this.
Hey #asheville, if you can't cover up hate speech for whatever reason, get in touch and I'll use my large white man privs. Nazis aren't fucking welcome and it's up to us to counter their message so their intended targets feel like we have their backs.
In the Biltmore Estate Gardens, the hibiscus stands out as a breathtaking focal point among the estate’s meticulously curated floral displays. Nestled among lush greenery and historic landscapes, these large, velvety blooms add a bold splash of color to the Walled Garden, Italian Garden, and Conservatory.

We've received 0.33" of rain today which is welcome (although one might have hoped to squeeze just a bit more out of those clouds, but of course I won't actually ask for more, because holy hell, we all remember September.)
So. Thank you for the rain. And I understand those to our south received much more than we did, which is wonderful as they have the fires.
It's on its way, #Asheville, time to batten down those hatches and everything else.
SW Asheville..Rain... Light but wet and appreciated..
#Asheville #AQI readings, coming down a bit from their highs around 4:15 for us today.
Still hoping for that rain, y'all.
Look out the window. That's not reflection or the window isn't clear that's really what it looks like outside.
Slightly SW of #Asheville, our #AQI numbers have gone way up, and the 2 windows I had open for an hour trying to bring down the #CO2 #IAQ numbers are now closed again due to smoke.
Really, some rain would be welcome. But just a little, controlled rain. Without lightning. Please.
SW #asheville
Just walked to my car in the parking lot and it is super smokey. Smells like campfire. Heavy Haze and you can tell it's not a good thing to be breathing this...
Definitely a different #AQI sort of day today, currently at 33 PM2.5 here SW of #Asheville.
The winds have shifted direction, and brought the brown, airborne stuff to the people east of Asheville along I40.
Still hoping for the rains to come, and without thunderstorms.
An update from #Asheville #Buncombe county:
"Buncombe County 4:15 p.m. Friday update:
The fire on Old Fort Road is 85% contained. Continue to avoid the area.
The Freedom Farm Fire is 100% contained, and all resources are cleared.
Traffic impacts from the lane closures on I-240 and I-26 are high. Check drivenc.gov for real-time traffic updates. The Transfer Station will be open on Saturday. "
I believe that last traffic-related issue was due to the quick spin-up of a fire at the landfill which has basically shut down a whole chunk of this side of town.
The Freedom Farm fire was our closest, so happy about its containment. #NCwx
An #AVLWatchdog story about the situation in French Broad and Riverside parks, and the whole-sale tree removal.
Talk about an area where our city will never look the same, especially FB park.
#Asheville #Friday morning:
My multi-sensor was in the house last night, so the CO2 level has dropped to 700 (better) but PurpleAir shows the area again with quite high AQI. The fire map from the local paper shows smoke overlying most of the area. A red flag warning will be in effect again from noon until 8pm tonight.
Rain is forecast for Sunday and Monday. After September, it's strange to again be hoping for heavy rains...
