my computer nerd army: my power button in my zalman z11 case is broken down, to the point i have to jumpstart the cables themselves to turn on my pc sometimes. i have other methods in place currently to get onto my pc but i'd like to have a functioning power button again. can anyone give me recs on either 1) how to DIY fix it, 2) a new case that would fit my current equipment, or 3) a workaround that allows me to turn off my pc without too much trouble?

i will be replying to this post with my current stuff

A couple nights ago I came home to find the alien and lights in my second story shop window. Was out. I figured it had gotten unplugged, but no, the plug was dead! This floor is basically a storage warehouse, so all the other outlets were behind shelves. I found ONE across the room, crawled under a shelf and -- dead. The ceiling lights are on the same breaker, so that wasn't it. But I was envisioning a broken plug or connection upstream, and
I went through all my old construction photos, pre-drywall, to figure out where the other plugs on the floor and the wires connecting them were located. It appeared the first plug in the run was near the stairs, right above the breaker panel on the first floor.
And that's when I remembered that the first plug on the circuit downstars had a GFI plug that had caused me trouble once before (Ironically, it had been hidden behind a bookcase in my wife's writing office). Was there one on the second floor? If so, it would be that first plug, deep behind a shelf. Also behind a lot of flat things that I'd put BEHIND that shelf.
I pulled out multiple sheets of plywood and perfboard blocking the way, and way behind the shelf, I could just see the plug. Unable to see clearly, I stuck my phone back and took a closeup of the plug with my phone. Yeah, that spoiler picture. Red LED. Poorly marked reset button.
With difficulty I reached back, found the reset by feel, and pushed it. The lights came on! Yay! My fears of an expensive electrician visit were relieved!
The lesson here is, if you're building or remodeling something, TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES during every stage of construction, especially before the drywall and insulation go up. Get clear shots of every interior and exterior wall, and don't forget the ceiling.
Knowing where your studs, rafters, beams, and hidden systems, pipes, wires, ducts, are, can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars later.
Even if you don't understand what you're looking at, you can show them to a professional when they are coming in to aid in troubleshooting or modifications. Sure, there are ways to "look" through walls, but pictures are much quicker and more certain.
Now my alien returns to his mission to bring cheer to a dark modern world!

Finally got BookStack up and running in a container with a supporting database also in another container next to it.

I've found several deployments of varying quality online, including several GitHub issues with heated commentary from different perspectives of people setting up their own BookStack instance on servers/containers. Those were assumptions of what a setup script would do vs. what the author intended and those things definitely didn't line up.

I finally got mine running/cooperating when I noticed it looked like Apache was listening on 8080, not 80. Being a container, I had limited command line tools available, so I was lucky to find the apache config file with the right data. No netstat, lsof, sudo, etc.

I tested it out in the container, fixed my ingress URLs, and almost instantly, it came up healthy.

Now I need to a) redesign the deployment as a StatefulSet with PVCs/PVs, and b) get secrets into env vars.

Ok, makers & tinkerers... My Dremel 4000 just started acting all weird - the rotor moves, but won't spin up to speed. I might have overloaded the tool while routing some wood. I have opened the device, and there's no visible damage on the brushes/coils/electronics. Does anyone have experience with troubleshooting and fixing Dremel tools? #Dremel #DIY #repair #troubleshooting EDIT: the armature was burned, I replaced it with a new one.

In the adventures of Bob's "Perfect" #Slackware install, I've been struggling to get Secure Boot working on my #Thinkpad x280.

Something seems to be preventing me from loading a custom Platform Key, while none appears loaded, and everything seems 'right' -- #SecureBoot is in Custom / Setup mode.

The unfortunate thing is ... using Secure Boot and signing kernel images and efi executables is not a common practice, and the documentation seems lacking explanations for people with my particular issue; method 1 of using `efi-updatevar` returns an error "Cannot write to PK, wrong filesystem permissions", method 2 -- updating from the #UEFI 'bios' -- is not an option on an x280, and method 3, using KeyTool.efi returns the error "Failed to update variable: (26) Security Violation".

I am wondering if there are some further setup settings that need to be adjusted to allow this operation, if perhaps my pk.auth file is incorrect in some way, if my machine was, from the factory, unable to allow custom Platform Keys, or if someone has modified it since then.

Rabbit holes are a pain in the dick, and now I'm in a position where I'm kinda 'forced' to learn a bit more about the mechanics of Secure Boot, under the hood.

Anyone got some good tips for where to start solving this puzzle?

When troubleshooting, asking what changed since everything last worked is an important step. It’s also important to not fixate on this step because we don’t always •know• what changed. If it’s obvious, great. If it’s not, stay focused on what’s happening now rather than going down the rabbit hole of what might have happened. #NetEng #Troubleshooting

Doing some testing with my extra Heltec V3 boards to see if I can pin down the random reboot situation.

I noticed when I had it connected via USB and no battery to reflash it to test a config that it was stable. So either a config issue, or battery issue, possibly.

I’ve got 2 test nodes running on the 2 batteries, with antenna connected, and fresh installs with minor config changes.

Let’s see if either of them starts rebooting.
