The Star Rosette lichen (Physcia stellaris) and the Rosette lichen (Physcia millegrana) on a tree bark

Two different leaf lichens of the same genus on a tree bark, the Star Rosette lichen (Physcia stellaris) and the Rosette lichen (Physcia millegrana).
The upper, large and round Star Rosette lichen has grey-blue lobes that are almost completely covered with round, flat fruiting bodies (apothecia).
The apothecia have black discs and white margins.
Directly below this lichen grows the Rosette lichen, which has lighter-coloured lobes and yellowish, powdery soredia* on the edges of the lobes.
*Soredia are small granules of fungal hyphae and algae for the reproduction of the lichen.

Smooth-footed Powderhorn lichen (Cladonia ochrochlora) among mosses

A Smooth-footed Powderhorn lichen (Cladonia ochrochlora) grows in the centre of these mosses.
This lichen consists of upright growing small leaflets (squamules), which are smooth and white on the underside and green on the upper side.
Two upright horn-shaped parts (podetia) grow from these squamules.
The surface of these podetia is partially covered with a light green powder (soredia*).
Here it looks as if the surface of the podetia is damaged, but this is not the case.
This is a particular characteristic of this type of powderhorn lichen.
*Soredia are small granules of fungal hyphae and algae for the reproduction of the lichen.

Another from my Ginko Petrified Forest collection. The orange on this one was just so vibrant. I come back and find this one every time I pass through.

I feel people only like me for my moss. ;)

I do post a lot of moss though... I like moss.

A patch of moss on rocks and some other green, behind in the distance we see a tall bridge.

Looking over rough water in the fjord we look at the Hålogaland Bridge, Norway's second longest bridge at 1533m long, 179m tall and 40m above sea level. Beyond it we can see snow covered mountains.

Don't bust the crust! Cryptobiotic soil crusts can take a human lifetime or longer to form and they are critical to the desert ecosystem.

A decayed and splitting tree stump is completely covered in moss and lichen. However it is split in two sections, and each part has a completely different kind of moss on it. The core wood has more frond-like moss, while the bark has finer, hairier moss.

A rough-textured sheet of grey lichen with red-brown highlights, cracked and fissured like a dry river bed. There's a cluster of raised orange nodules that look like walnuts in the top left corner, while the right-hand side is dominated by a roughly circular sunken blue-grey flat depression spattered with black, grey, and red-brown flat spots.
