Turnouts take flight.

Black and white photograph of a couple of dark cylindrical railroad cars on a railroad track next to three additional tracks all of which are connected via sequential railroad turnouts or switches marked by switch stands. The bottom portion of dark hill is visible in the far-right frame and two railroad tracks, and a tree-lined hill are visible in the background of the upper frame. The tracks angle from the lower left corner to the upper right where the disappear around a corner. The tracks begin parallel and converge at each sequential turnout into a single track in the upper right frame where they run next to the other track in the far background. The scene is starkly lit with heavy shadows and glaring highlights creating heavy contrasts. A twisting path of frozen water at the base of the hill in the far right indicates that that the photo was taken in wintertime. The rails and ties are dark and are surrounded by much lighter and heavily textured that reflects most of the light on the shadow dappled tracks.
