Much of the southern Great Plains saw degradations, while parts of the Midwest saw improvements. The West saw small areas of improvement, with areas of degradation in Montana, Colorado and New Mexico. Hawaii also had areas of improvement. The Northeast and Southeast experienced mixed conditions.

US Drought Monitor 3-20-25
For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the US Drought Monitor shows 37.09% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 36.54% last week.
Drought expanded in parts of the Southwest, South, and Eastern US this week on the US #Drought Monitor, even as it eased in adjacent areas. Drought coverage decreased slightly to 43.59%, a drop of 0.82 points. Soil moisture is low in parts of the country as planting season nears.

Most U.S regions saw a mix of conditions this week. The Northeast saw mostly improvements, with areas of degradation in New York and West Virginia. An area of improvement occurred in Hawaii.

US Drought Monitor 3-13-25
For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the US Drought Monitor shows 36.54% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 37.25% last week.
Many pockets of the US saw #drought intensify over the past week. Drought covered 44.41% of the continental US, a jump of 2.73 points. Conditions worsened in the Southwest and Southeast and eased in Idaho.

Drought increased in pockets from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes, while easing in the Northwest and Southeast. #Drought covered 41.68% of the continental US, a jump of 1.71 points from last week on the US #DroughtMonitor.
