In April I was part of a doco about Aotearoa-NZ's entries in the 2024 #CityNatureChallenge. This is the global challenge to get city folk outside finding as many species as we can. It's great fun. Director Kelly Gilbride and the fine people at Loading Docs have done a fantastic job of capturing what the event is about.

The doco is all edited and polished and just dropped at loadingdocs.net/short/here-the Check it out.

The frogs may be gone, but life goes on: how I regained my faith in #gardening for #wildlife

Spare a thought for the Burns Building pigeons.

For many decades, this 7-storey cliff-like concrete building of #LincolnUniversityNZ has been pigeon central. They'd roost here and foray out into farms.

Damaged by the 2011 earthquakes, Burns is finally being demolished. The new buildings replacing it are (purposefully) pigeon unfriendly.

This evening the pigeons were still roosting on the last small part of the building that remains. They don't know where else to go.

Hello again everyone. I just moved instances so this is my reintroduction.

I'm trained as an entomologist and ecologist with some interests in statistical #ecology and #taxonomy.

Although these days I find myself working more with #UrbanEcology and #SciComm, with some projects looking at the relationship between Malaysian food, art and biodiversity, as well as some ongoing #CitizenSci initiatives to study urban fireflies.
