I will be very interested to see pictures of the #PlanetaryAlignment especially from any of you who use a professional process, like an eyepiece between the camera and the telescope. I'm going the primitive route, hoping that I don't shake the camera.
And yes, it's really an arc, not a straight line. I understand elliptical orbit. And maybe it's overhyped, but anything that the world can experience together, like those crazy low latitude Auroras, or the Solar Eclipse, are the kinds of events which make me feel a connection to everyone.

My neighbour was sad - tonight's poor cloud forecast meant she would "miss the great #planetaryparade". Good news: this is an ongoing phenomenon so #DoLookUp whenever your skies clear!
Mercury is in the sunset West, getting easier to spot as days pass! Venus, Jupiter & Mars resplendent as ever.

First of February
The moon and Venus in the sky at night
Today Last of February :
"Planetary Parade,"
a rare #astronomical treat this Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, when a remarkable planetary alignment, often referred to as a "#planetaryparade," #astronomy #planets

Loved seeing @astronomyedinburgh.bsky.social President Mark Phillips & neighbours on the 10pm BBC News last night, complemented by @robertmassey.bsky.social & some high-tech planet graphics. Thanks so much @pallabg.bsky.social for encouraging everyone to look up at the #PlanetaryParade! #scicomm

Friday night, you can see all seven #planets in the SSW sky (two requiring a telescope). Or you can go drinking at a bar. Your call.

#PlanetaryParade fans: all 7 planets are now in the sky for ~1hr after sunset. Mercury joins the pack low on the Western horizon but it's hard to see, hiding in the sunset glare with Saturn. Tried to catch it this evening, but the weather Gods had other plans so here's Venus and Jupiter instead!
#PlanetaryParade excitement is fantastic! #DoLookUp But I'm baffled by the media saying 25th Jan is a "once in a lifetime event"
The awesome foursome Mars, Jupiter, Venus & Saturn have been on display for weeks + Neptune & Uranus if you have a telescope. We won't see Mercury until late Feb
1/6
In conclusion, I love a good #PlanetaryParade but this is a ~2month extravaganza! #DoLookUp Venus is aeroplane-bright in the West, Mars super red in the East and Jupiter shining bright up above.
Wishing you all clear skies!
