I've read Nathan Gardels interview with Yuval Noah Harari about his new book Nexus ( https://www.noemamag.com/al-will-take-over-human-systems-from-within/ ) and I'm capturing it from the flood of information as a lifeline we can grab onto and somehow navigate together. I think it conveys much what is essential to understand about the contemporary world and what needs to be factored into what we do and will do.
But I don't think it's enough just to read the toot about the article, and it's not even enough just to read the article. In my opinion, it is necessary, at least, to read the article together with someone and read it carefully and repeatedly. To talk about it. To learn from it. To materialize it in our heads and hearts and bodies. Who is interested?
The English book is pretty easy to get, and I'd be happy to lend my copy to anyone who has any trouble with it. I haven't opened the book yet. I would like to read it and I would like to read it with someone and talk about it.
From the end of the article:
"... Personally, I have an information diet the same way that people have food diets.
I think it is good advice for everybody to go on an information diet because we are flooded with far too much information, and most of it is junk. So, in the same way people are very careful about what they eat, they should be very careful about how much and what they consume in terms of information....
The other thing I do is go on information fasts. Since most information is junk, and information needs processing, just putting more information in your head doesn’t make you smarter or wiser. It just fills your mind with junk...
... I think it is a good idea for everybody to think more carefully about their information diet, and also to at least have short information fasts, maybe once a week, of a day, a week or a few hours a day, when you don’t consume more information. "
