FINALLY! After several weeks of miserable, slushy, damp, cold weather we finally have broken in to "real" spring. Clear blue sky and temps. topping 67⁰F (20⁰C) Beet Bear says "it's a GO" for getting the Ailsa Craig onion plants in to the ground at last! We spent the morning planting out about 200 plants before Dad ran out of spoons and went in for a nap.

Visited Folly Cove for the first time in a few months and found a nice variety of different nudi species. We saw a couple Ancula gibbosa, a few Ananthodoris pilosa, and even an Onchidoris muricata. My favorite find of the dive was a large mysis shrimp that I followed for a bit and managed to photograph in the water column. Nice dive!
Add #Maine to this, please!
Four States Could Secede From US and Join #Canada to Avoid Trump—Democrat
Published Nov 29, 2024
A prominent Democratic New York State "Senator has floated the fanciful proposition that her state and its northeastern neighbors secede from the United States to join Canada to avoid President-elect Donald Trump's return to office.
"Liz Krueger, who chairs the New York State Senate Finance Committee, argued that the Empire State, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont, could all suffer under Trump's new administration.
"Citing his proposed crackdown on immigration and promise of mass deportation, the Manhattan Democrat believes liberal and sanctuary states such as New York could be threatened with cuts in the amount of federal funding they receive, a move the incoming leader and his cabinet have suggested, should states oppose new policy measures.
"This is not the first time the New York Democrat has offered up a radical and improbable plan to counter Trump's policies, suggesting in September, ahead of his election win, that the bloc of blue states should join Canada.
" 'I thought I would suggest to Canada that instead of us all trying to illegally cross the border at night without them noticing, which is pretty hard because there's a lot of us, that they should instead agree to let us be the southeast province, a new province of Canada.
" 'And I offered, even though I hadn't gotten agreement from other states yet, that I thought New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, would combine and be a great new province as the southeast province of Canada,' Krueger said in an interview with news site City and State New York."

HEY! HEY! SOMEONE! HEY! Do ya'll know it's MID GODDAMNED APRIL?!? Who the hell left Winter plugged in?!?
With a cycling buddy, I drove 900km to the small town of Glen Innes for a gravel ride in the Northern Tablelands in a region of northern New South Wales called New England.
I've never been here before and, to be honest, it's a lot like the Southern Highlands which is much closer. It's also very British with lots of Scottish and Welsh references.
The ride was organised by Goodness Gravel and was a much smaller and more personal ride than the Classic series.
We completed the 75km ride in good time and good spirits, despite some strong and relentless headwinds.
We've got a few more days here and are planning some riding/exploring tomorrow.
Good Morning from April reminding you that weather and climate are not the same thing.
None of the flowers pictured have been harmed and indeed the cold temps will prolong them. But still. Come on Mother Nature!
Oh hey, its @knizer again - Every weekend I scour a bunch of sources and put together a list of interesting #Boston area events. I live in #Somerville #Massachusetts, but include anything that looks incredible in #NewEngland thats worth the trip.
I tag my thread with #BostonWeekend - if there's an exciting event on your radar, let me know - there's always so much to do, I'm just one human curating this as a passion project. I do this to help build #community here on the #fediverse, no ads, no donations, no bribes to get something listed - I'm going to keep doing this til I burn out (its a couple hours of committed focus every week).
If you dig this, great - tell me about whats exciting you! Wanna collab? Just say hi? Send me a picture of the event you went to because of my posts?
Boosts and likes are appreciated to get the message out, but the best thing to do is talk about how awesome your social media feed is with people who aren't already on the fedi - tell your friends and people running events that you found out about a show on #mastodon.
Have a great time out there, fedi-friend!

It was time to thin out the trays containing the Verbena bonariensis seedlings. I save seed every year and sew them in these little trays. I always underestimate how much seed I use, so there is always much thinning to do. Got them thinned out to about 50 per tray at this point.

Had a hard freeze last night. It got down to 28⁰F/-2⁰C with windy conditions. Even now, at mid-day it's only 37⁰F/3⁰C in full sun. The heater in the greenhouse was working overtime, but kept the tomato plants looking ok. Here we have 36 Jet Star, 36 Better Boy, and 12 SuperSweet 100s. Still about a month to go before they go out!

If you're in #Boston and love old computers, electronics, and games, check out the MIT Swapfest flea market. First meeting this year is April 20th.
I went a few times last year and saw some wild things like Commodore 64s, Apple ][s, a NeXT cube, and tons of video games. I also saw a lot of old radio equipment and miscellaneous electronics parts.
it's always so weird when the weather goes from rainy and gray to blue sky with clouds and a good amount of sunlight in the span of five minutes.
Some images from another excellent dive at Peirce Island in Portsmouth, New Hampshire in mid-March.
