Our local supermarket has had shishito peppers in their produce section for a month or two. So of course, when I went to get some, nada.

I'm going to make a kind of fusion dish, in effect, using a couple of poblanos instead. After some hasty on-the-fly research in the produce section, I settled on that as an acceptable substitute with regard to heat level. They didn't have Anaheims, or I'd have gone with those instead.

We had some really lovely dinners over the last days that worked really well with each other. I love having leftovers that I can combine in different ways over several meals.

It started with an urad (urid?) dal on Thursday of which I cooked double the amount to possibly freeze the other half. Somehow three quarters of it were gone (eaten with plain basmati rice and paratha, from frozen) before I could grab a hold of the leftovers. They went into the fridge.

On Friday we had Japanese food, rice with mackerel in XO sauce, another tamagoyaki (rolled omelette, this time with greens) and most of a pack of Padrón peppers.

On the weekend we went back to Indian food. My husband made Tandoori chicken with plain basmati rice which we had with the leftover dal and a tin of Ka Saag (mustard leaves in curry sauce). This worked really well together.

Today we had more Tandoori chicken but this time with turmeric lemon fried rice, more of the Padrón peppers (freshly fried) and parathas.

I don’t have a photo of the way we were eating this Thai Basil Chicken dish 🫣 I took apart an iceberg lettuce and we used the leaves to eat, in other words stuff the leaves plus contents into our mouths. As we are not used to this method it was a bit messy (hence no photo) but the added vegetable and the crunch of the fresh salad were highly welcome. I think we will have to explore this more!

(I made it fully vegan with soy mince, vegan fish and oyster sauces.)

The other day I bought a Japanese tamagoyaki pan only to completely miss out on the information that it wasn’t suitable for induction according to the label included. I tried it out nevertheless and it gets very hot. Since I underestimated what would happen my rolled omelette ended up a bit on the brown side but it was very edible 😅

On Sunday I wanted to try something new, a Chinese dish with spiced tofu and garlic chives. I had bought garlic chives last week on a whim but they weren’t enough for this dish. Nevermind, there were also radish leaves and some other Asian Greens available in my fridge and that’s what I used to bulk this up with. I added some radish slices as garnish, I think they add a nice contrast ☺️ All in all a success.
