It's been a fruitful #POTA filled vacation. I've managed to log both DC and ND, leaving nine open spots on the bingo card for US states hunted.

The JPC-12 antenna continues to be lopsided, transmitting better than it hears; I continue to get good reports from others, while being able to give a report as strong as I get perhaps only a third of the time. Strange.

In 2024, I taught my one-day #hamradio class at four hacker conferences (HOPE, DEFCON, JawnCon, and B-Sides Delaware), thanks to a grant from ARDC. ARDC has graciously awarded me another grant, and this year, I'd like to teach this class at a #maker event and a #STEM event. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Had 5 minutes so managed a quick #hamradio contact from Seattle to my old home state of Wisconsin. Transmitting a digital mode on the 15 meter wavelength band (so each radio wave is just longer than, say, a standard long shipping container).

This is direct, me sending radio waves to them and back!

We, a group of radio amateurs, enjoyed a weekend together. Quite a few short wave transceivers were operated via some three or four antennas.

Could one person's transmission ruin the initial amplifier in the next person's receiver? Is that something to be afraid of? Any experience?

We stayed away from that experiment: We had one token per band, and any op may operate on a certain band only after obtaining the token for that band.

People were disciplined. It worked nicely for us.

My Mac running WSJ-TX is annoying in that every time I reboot, there is a high chance (but not 100%) that the Serial Port has changed name, and so needs to be manually re-selected in the WSJTX prefs in order to work. Why it randomly switches names I don't know, and why WSJTX can't figure it out I don't know either, but it's something I have to deal with every day that I wish I didn't.
