A few wonderful drawings #FromTheInspirationFolder by E. H. Shepard (1879 – 1976) to commemorate his birthday.

A few more illustrations by Jean-Jacques Grandville (1803-1847) from "Public and private life of animals".
I really enjoy his insects and other animals that are not often drawn anthropomorphized. So much character in these!

Some of the marvelous illustrations by Jean-Jacques Grandville (1803-1847) from "Public and private life of animals", written by P. J. Stahl.

Not feeling great today, looking through the illustration work of Natalia Trepenok (b. 1953) to cheer myself up so I'm sharing some with you too!
Some of the best animals in the business IMO.
A Halloween special #FromTheInspirationFolder :
Cause no one does eerie moods quite like Josep Segrelles (1885-1969). Dreamlike and strange and mesmerizing work.
Haven't done a #FromTheInspirationFolder post in a while so I thought I'd share some of Peter Kľúčik's (b. 1953) amazing 1989 illustrations for The Hobbit.
These never saw print as the publisher lost the rights to the book.
A few more Ernest & Celestine illustrations by Gabrielle Vincent / Monique Martin (1928-2000)

Her Ernest and Celestine books are simply gorgeous, I adore the sensibility and the feel of intimacy in her drawings. Super expressive body language in her characters too - just marvelous.
And some more Ferenc Pintér (1931-2008)

From Macbeth this time. Incredibly powerful.
More Ferenc Pintér (1931-2008)

His Pinocchio illustrations (published posthumously) are really amazing and perfectly convey that this is actually a pretty dark story.

Another big favorite (yes I have many!).
I'm always blown away by his masterful work. The bold shapes and carefully crafted compositions, the fantastic combinations of organic/geometric and textural/flat, the moods. Just so unique.
And a few more from Hermann Vogel (1854-1921)

More Hermann Vogel (1854-1921) #FromTheInspirationFolder
I always marvel at his amazing compositions and at how naturally he married naturalistic depiction with ornamental/graphic elements.
Another of my favorites #FromTheInspirationFolder
Hermann Vogel (1854-1921) created the most wonderful worlds, chock-full of charming details and intricate linework.
Just such a perfect example of the utter magic of drawing.
Some more Georges Beuville (1902-1982).
#FromTheInspirationFolder
These illustrations are from La bête mahousse (1954).
I really love the limited palette in these.
More Georges Beuville (1902-1982). #FromTheInspirationFolder
These illustrations are all from La guerre des Boutons (1966).
First post #FromTheInspirationFolder - gonna be trying out formats & stuff so bear with me!
Starting with my fave of all time, Georges Beuville (1902-1982) and his wonderfully expressive work.
Years ago, over at the Birdsite, I used to do inspiration posts on Mondays to share art I love (usually but not exclusively old and/or not super well known). Been thinking of bringing that back but over here and on Bluesky.
Don't wanna stick to a day so I'll use a hashtag:
