ChatGPT has replaced Google search for me
I know I’ve written about trying to stop using AI assistance in the past but with it becoming more and more part of my day job I need to keep in touch with where they are. My assistant of choice for now is ChatGPT. I’ve tried several others but I find it’s faster and tends to provide me with the most relevant information.
Typical use for me, finding information with a vague inputWhat I’ve come to realise is that using ChatGPT has almost completely replaced Google search. For example I’m looking at new trainers, I have very specific needs and use ChatGPT to help me pick brands that are better for people with flat feet. I then realised I had images of recommended brands but didn’t know what they were. In the example above I asked it “What’s the brand that looks like the symbol says dc”. As you’ll see it got me exactly the brand I was looking for.
I could then interrogate a little further to find the specific trainer I should be looking at.
I’m also using it for getting me lists of questions I should be asking for meetings I have going on and check lists for things I’m unsure of.
This isn’t a profound statement just something I’ve observed about my behaviour and a change in the way I’m using technology.
A fellow developer sent me a fragment of code as a sample. I did my due diligence on the code, and saw that the parameters provided to the function called in the fragment don't match the documentation or the source code of the function.
**Light bulb** goes off in my head and I asked: "This was generated by ChatGPT, right?" Yep.
Fans of Studio Ghibli, the famed Japanese animation studio behind “Spirited Away” and other beloved movies, were delighted this week when a new version of ChatGPT let them transform popular internet memes or personal photos into the distinct style of Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki.
But the trend also highlighted ethical concerns about artificial intelligence tools trained on copyrighted creative works...

The viral ChatGPT Ghiblification feature is an insult to Hayao Miyazaki who was notoriously vehemently against generative AI. Users may have not known this, but OpenAI definitely did. Which makes this a personal attack on the legacy of the late artist, and the movement to defend artist rights from AI crawler practices that commit mass copyright infringement.

An accurate #OpenAI #Ghibli filter would turn any prompt / artwork into the giant, gruesome, unfinished, decomposing, slop-spitting, energy-hungry, life-destroying, unthinking quasi-fascist warmonger minion from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
