New #review today: "When I think of the albums by #EclecticMaybeBand, I tend to remember the spaced-out #FunkyJazz grooves. They’re somewhat reminiscent of Bitches Brew, and I really love that sound. I tend to forget that much of the band’s music is far removed from that sound, aiming into sparse territory of long tones and eerie atmospheres. Of course, this range of style is one of the things that makes the group so appealing..." #ExoseOnline #AvantJazz #SpaceRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "One of the brighter lights of the French independent and #AvantGarde scene since the early 70s, trumpeter and composer Jacques #JacBerrocal has also appeared in several films, as well as releasing numerous albums from 1973 onward, including many collaborations. He is also a founding member of the group #Catalogue (along with #JeanFrançoisPauvros and #GilbertArtman)..." #ExposeOnline #ExperimentalMusic #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "Well, as chance would have it, some tapes from the mid-80s turned up in #GeorgeCartwright’s basement, an almost forgotten band he played in briefly called #Angling. Of course, Cartwright was a founding member and saxophonist of #Curlew, at that time in between their first and second albums. Angling played two live gigs and one studio recording session, and that’s it, they were done and off to other projects." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz #AvantRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "One could make a plausible argument that this all started back around 2010 or so with guitarist and composer #StephanThelen’s band #Sonar, a band which we covered extensively at every step along the way, and which still is active to this day. Then came other projects, like Thelen’s Fractal Guitar trilogy and the remixes thereof, which could be seen as leading to the formation of the #FractalSextet..." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #MathRock #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "Now for something radically different, at least when compared to previous #BeatLoveOracle releases. For the last four albums the core of the band was #FrankNuyts, #FrankDebruyne, #RonaldDhaene, and #StijnDeldaele. This time they decided to do things different by adding Taiwanese pianist #LiangYuWang, who adds a whole new dimension to the Beat Love Oracle sound." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz #AvantRock #ChamberRock expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "#Jazz that stretches outside the boundaries of tradition can go any of a number of different ways. #Glasshopper is a London trio that works with saxophone, guitar, and drums augmented by electronic effects, and while they venture quite far from swing, bebop, or any other kind of jazz, they do so in a way that is not abrasive." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "#SatokoFujii’s 2021 album with her Tokyo Trio, Moon on the Lake, stands as one of my very favorite out of her many albums, and Jet Black proves that this is indeed a special combination of players. While nominally a standard #PianoTrio with bass and drums, in Fujii’s artistic vision, the tried-and-true configuration becomes a vehicle for highly unconventional #jazz." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "The Last Quiet Place is the first time we’ve reviewed a release with #IngridLaubrock as leader, though she’s showed up on quite a few albums by others. This album sees her leading a sextet consisting of herself on tenor and soprano saxophones, #MazzSwift on violin, #TomekaReid on cello, #BrandonSeabrook on guitar, #MichaelFormanek on double bass, and #TomRainey on drums." #ExposeOnline #jazz #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/

New #review today: "Drummer #ChesSmith’s two most recent releases feature entirely different personnel, but there are definitely some stylistic factors in common. Interpret It Well (2022) features #BillFrisell, #CraigTaborn, and #MatManeri... Laugh Ash (2023) presents a much larger ensemble, with #ShahzadIsmaely, #MichaelNicholas, #OscarNoriega, #AnnaWebber, #JamesBrandonLewis, #NateWooley, #KyleArmbrust, #JenniferChoi, and #SharaLunon." #ExposeOnline #jazz #AvantJazz expose.org/index.php/articles/
