Could someone please help me understand the difference between “Mastodon” and PixelFed?
I can post pictures on here as well…
Is the difference between this and PixelFed is that you MUST post a picture every time you post?
Asking for a friend.
@computernut43 You can add pictures to posts on Mastodon but PixelFed is developed for images and not text posts.
Just some of it is,
Images and videos only. There are no text only posts.
Stories. These are similar to Instagram stories but are only visible to followers.
Collections. You can group Pixelfed posts into a collection and present them to people browsing your account as a single unit. This way it’s easy to group your posts into themes if you want and present them that way.
A portfolio link. You can create a portfolio-style page which showcases some of the images you’ve uploaded either manually selected or automatically.
Filters. Just like with Instagram, you can do image editing and image filters at the time of upload.
Mastodon is microblogging.
@TheEddieShow @computernut43 I'm sure features have been added that I left out, or maybe even changed but that is the gist of it.
I could have just said, "PixelFed is more about showing and then discussing what was shown and not conversation with tools geared to towards that.
Mastodon is about conversation and "saying.""
@computernut43 Pixelfed = Instagram
Mastodon = Twitter
@computernut43 Sending an SOS to @RiversideBryan
@thefalcon @RiversideBryan I remember that he used it.
But I just was not sure if there was something special I was missing out on.
@computernut43 @RiversideBryan I'm not sure about all the ins and outs, but I think you're correct that all posts must include a picture.
@thefalcon @RiversideBryan okay, that is what I was thinking as well.
