Michael Marek<p>A red house finch at our thistle feeder. The yellow variant has been more common recently, but these guys are here also.</p><p>They have an interesting story.</p><p>Originally they were in Mexico and the southwestern US, but they were introduced to eastern North America in the 1940s. The birds were sold illegally in New York City as "Hollywood finches." To avoid prosecution under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918, vendors and owners released the birds. ℹ️ The Hawfinch (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) grows up to 18 cm long and has a wingspan of up to 33 cm. This makes it the largest finch in Germany. Its powerful beak can exert up to 50 kg of pressure, allowing it to easily crack open its food, which includes seeds, insects and cherry stones. The hawfinch is usually found in the treetops.<br>

🐦 Kernbeißer 🇳🇱<br>
ℹ️ Der Kernbeißer (Coccothraustes coccothraustes) wird bis zu 18 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 33 cm. Damit ist er die größte Finkenart in Deutschland. Sein kräftiger Schnabel kann einen Druck von bis zu 50 KG! aufbauen, somit kann er seine Nahrung, die u.a. aus Sämereien, Insekten und Kirschkernen besteht, locker knacken. Zumeist ist der Kernbeißer in den Baumwipfeln unterwegs.<br>

I just uninstalled the #Finch app. I used to really love it, but they forced too many "social" features into it. I stopped using it when they made friends' event progress visible. I want encouragement, not to be told everyone else is doing better.
Does anyone have any suggestions for simple, non-subscription, cute, gamified #selfcare or #habitbuilding apps, that don't force competition, or eat time?
