Shantell PowellI remember this magazine. I was twelve years old when it came out, and being groomed to be understanding to rapists. I was being taught that if I didn’t scream, it wasn’t rape, and that the best offense to a rapist was to pray out loud to Jehovah. Meanwhile, I was afraid to wash my crotch too much in the bath for fear that that constituted “self abuse.” My mom told me I couldn’t use tampons because that would be losing my virginity. My dad refused to teach me any martial arts because I might hurt someone.
