Yowie<p>In 2012 I was 43, and my <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/weight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weight</span></a> was just shy of 130kg. I felt like crap, and couldn't keep up with my kid playing kiddy football. I decided to do something about it, started <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/C25K" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>C25K</span></a> and a <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/diet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diet</span></a> , and by June 2014, I was down to 92kg and was <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>running</span></a> 5km three times a week and was well on my way to doing 10km.</p><p>Then life threw a curveball and I couldn't <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/run" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>run</span></a> any more.</p><p>And in 2019 I was back to 125kg and was diagnosed with <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/diabetesT2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diabetesT2</span></a>.</p><p>And I started <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/C25K" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>C25K</span></a> again, and was back to running 5km a couple of times a week, and was down to about 100kg.</p><p>And life threw another curveball, and I couldn't run again. I didn't know it then but my <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/coeliac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coeliac</span></a> gene had activated due to the trauma that stopped me running, and I felt bloody awful. And yup, I ballooned back to ~120kg again. Several utterly useless doctors later "Lose weight and exercise more" "I can barely get off the couch, I am exhausted just walking from the waiting room to your office" "Here's an exercise program" a good <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/doctor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doctor</span></a> found severe <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/anaemia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>anaemia</span></a> as well as <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/bloating" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bloating</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/JointInflammation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JointInflammation</span></a> and asked why? and I was diagnosed as a <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/coeliac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>coeliac</span></a> in November 2023.</p><p>I stopped eating <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/gluten" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gluten</span></a> and I slowly lost the feeling of being the walking dead and I started feeling alive again. Very slowly the weight dropped. And I rediscovered the joy of <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/moving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moving</span></a> my <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/body" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>body</span></a>. </p><p>Today, I am <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/55yo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>55yo</span></a> , 97kg, and just did this on the <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/exercise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>exercise</span></a> bike, which is 5 minutes longer than when I started a few weeks ago. I'm <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/purposefully" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>purposefully</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/exercising" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>exercising</span></a> again.</p><p>Will I <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/run" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>run</span></a> again? Probably not - the <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/knees" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>knees</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/hips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hips</span></a> are not what they once were - but I've found that <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/dancing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dancing</span></a> to <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/livemusic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>livemusic</span></a> is great <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/aerobic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>aerobic</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/exercise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>exercise</span></a> and am happy to hop on the <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/StationaryBike" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StationaryBike</span></a> to make sure I can cope with 2 hours of thrashing it out to <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/IronMaiden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IronMaiden</span></a> next month. A girl has to have <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/goals" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>goals</span></a>. It's no longer about my <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/weight" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weight</span></a> or how I <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/look" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>look</span></a>, it's because <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/life" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>life</span></a> is short, and I want to <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/live" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>live</span></a> it.</p>
