kashcah<p>The initial draw back of the top soil for the footprint of our house and the drainage was completed on 18th March, 2025. Archaeologist was present as required by Highland council and nothing of interest was found. Undiscovered Scotland<p>It's well worth going to Achmelvich, north of Lochinver in Sutherland, for the magnificent setting and the beaches. Tracking down the eccentric and elusive Hermit's Castle on its rocky headland adds even further to the enjoyment. Undiscovered Scotland<p>Dun Dornaigil Broch, reached from the north coast of Sutherland by a narrow single-track road that passes Loch Hope and Ben Hope. It is one of the more enigmatic brochs in Scotland as it has never been excavated. Sandwood Bay, south of Cape Wrath in Sutherland, offers nearly a mile and half of wide pinkish sand backed by huge sand dunes and a loch, plus an impressive sea stack: and a very long walk in. Just 2,389ft high, the name is said to come from the Norse for "Pillar Mountain". Undiscovered Scotland<p>Spectacular Torrisdale Bay near the village of Bettyhill on the north coast of Sutherland. Bettyhill was established in the early 1800s as a result of Highland clearances and was named after herself by Elizabeth, Duchess of Sutherland. Undiscovered Scotland<p>Engineering as a beautiful work of art. This is the Kylesku Bridge on the west coast of Sutherland, seen in summer and in winter. The bridge replaced the Kylesku Ferry - or a 100 mile detour via Lairg - when it opened in 1984.
