They are crazy hardy compared to stuff that evolved elsewhere. </p><p>Here’s a great example: We bought this 1-gallon <a href="https://vmst.io/tags/serviceberry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>serviceberry</span></a> last fall. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and it didn’t get planted. It should not have survived winter. </p><p>A few weeks ago I did “the scratch test” near the top of the stem to see if it was still alive and it wasn’t. </p><p>WELL. Further down? We’ve got life!
