Union City, CA Weather<p>California weather service office will no longer answer public phone calls amid staffing cuts</p><p>The National Weather Service office in Sacramento, which serves as a hub in California and forecasts weather in areas including Redding, Modesto, Vallejo and the Sierra Nevada, has been forced to cut down its operations and services due to “critically reduced staffing,” triggered by Department of Government Efficiency layoffs.</p><p>The weather service office sent an email to partners Wednesday afternoon detailing major changes. The shifts include:</p><p>Public phone calls will no longer be answered</p><p>Written forecasts, including fire weather forecasts, will only be published once per day, rather than twice per day</p><p>Staffing levels will be routinely reduced during overnight shifts, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.</p><p>Social media channels will be monitored less frequently</p><p>The office plans to remain fully staffed during extreme weather events. <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/weather" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weather</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/STO" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>STO</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/NWS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NWS</span></a> <a href="https://m.ai6yr.org/tags/CAwx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CAwx</span></a> <br><a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/california-weather-service-office-will-no-longer-answer-public-phone-calls-amid-staffing-cuts/ar-AA1D4cc0?ocid=winp2fptaskbarhover&amp;cvid=33fdeb081d08480ab4160b645e77e1bf&amp;ei=41" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">msn.com/en-us/weather/topstori</span><span class="invisible">es/california-weather-service-office-will-no-longer-answer-public-phone-calls-amid-staffing-cuts/ar-AA1D4cc0?ocid=winp2fptaskbarhover&amp;cvid=33fdeb081d08480ab4160b645e77e1bf&amp;ei=41</span></a></p>
