WIST Quotations<p><a href="https://wist.info/roosevelt-franklin-delano/5456/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">A quotation from <b>Franklin Roosevelt</b></a></p><blockquote>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Perfectionism, no less than isolationism or imperialism or power politics, may obstruct the paths to international peace. Let us not forget that the retreat to isolationism a quarter of a century ago was started not by a direct attack against international cooperation but against the alleged imperfections of the peace.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In our disillusionment after the last war we preferred international anarchy to international cooperation with Nations which did not see and think exactly as we did. We gave up the hope of gradually achieving a better peace because we had not the courage to fulfill our responsibilities in an admittedly imperfect world.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We must not let that happen again, or we shall follow the same tragic road again — the road to a third world war.</blockquote><p><b>Franklin Delano Roosevelt</b> (1882-1945) American lawyer, politician, statesman, US President (1933-1945)<br>Message (1945-01-06) to Congress, Annual Message (State of the Union)</p> <p>Sourcing, notes: <a href="https://wist.info/roosevelt-franklin-delano/5456/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">wist.info/roosevelt-franklin-d…</a></p><p><a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=quote" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>quote</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=quotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>quotes</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=quotation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>quotation</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=fdr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fdr</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=franklinroosevelt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>franklinroosevelt</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=collaboration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>collaboration</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=cooperation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cooperation</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=foreignaffairs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foreignaffairs</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=imperfection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>imperfection</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=internationalrelations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>internationalrelations</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=isolationism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>isolationism</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=peace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>peace</span></a> <a href="https://my-place.social/search?tag=perfectionism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>perfectionism</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History February 15, 1933: Giuseppe Zangara tried to assassinate President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt in Miami. He failed, mostly because he was too short to see over the crowd. However, Chicago mayor Anton J. Cermak, who was shot in the attack, later died, in part from his wounds and in part from medical malpractice. Zangara confessed to the crime in jail, stating “I kill kings and presidents first and next all capitalists.” He was executed in Old Sparky, Florida’s electric chair in March, 1933. Philip K. Dick’s novel, “The Man in the High Castle,” is based in part on the premise that Zangara succeeded in killing FDR.</p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/workingclass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>workingclass</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LaborHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaborHistory</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/fdr" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fdr</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/potus" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>potus</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/assassination" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>assassination</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/florida" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>florida</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/electricchair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electricchair</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/deathpenalty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deathpenalty</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/jail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jail</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/capitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>capitalism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/prison" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prison</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/novel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>novel</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/fiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fiction</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/sciencefiction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sciencefiction</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/scifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scifi</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/philipkdick" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>philipkdick</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/author" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>author</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/writer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writer</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstadon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstadon</span></a></span></p>
