Mark and MarieIn 2014 we headed off for a short break using Margate as a base for a few days of exploring that part of England. We broke up the initial drive from our home with a stop in Hastings as we'd never been before. Hastings is famous for its connection to the Norman conquest of the country in 1066, of course, but we steered clear of any historical sites and made do with a stretch of the legs along the shore instead. There was some lovely Art Deco architecture and a pier there, befitting a place popular with Victorian and Edwardian holidaymakers, and there was also one of those things to which people feel compelled to attach padlocks to and have them rust. Quite what the message is supposed to be here, I don't know.
