Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>BC Ferries to Rail.<br>“Is it a more efficient use of taxpayer money for Government to connect and augment public transit with rail stops at all major terminals on the Island and Lower Mainland?</p><p>BC Ferries started as CP Rail, maybe a return to those roots is smarter than saddling BC Ferries with boat loads of debt.”</p><p><a href="https://chrisalemany.ca/2025/03/31/bc-ferries-to-rail/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">chrisalemany.ca/2025/03/31/bc-</span><span class="invisible">ferries-to-rail/</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BCPoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCPoli</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Transportation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Transportation</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Rail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rail</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BCFerries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCFerries</span></a></p>

Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Ooo! Just coming around Gabriola Island, past the blinking lighthouse, and in the inky darkness in the distance, just above the Islands, we could see fireworks! Impossible to get a clear picture through the window glare. Fun. 🎆 <br>Almost back to the Island. A relaxing boat ride. Ferry was barely half full. Quiet. Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Fun Facts for BC Ferry folks on Vancouver Island. </p><p>I'm headed to Vancouver for a night on Friday to join family already there. Two of us are headed over on Friday but 4 are coming back. We can't do our normal, cheap and easy walk-on the BCF and bus/skytrain because of time constraints in both directions. </p><p>*But* the new “Hullo" Ferry Catamaran service between Nanaimo and Vancouver would work. So, which is the more economical, Car+BCF or Hullo?</p><p>Well it turns out, there is a discount on the Hullo if you book a return ticket so it's a little complicated. Plus, sorta like a budget airline, there are lots of additional “upgrades” to potentially add for the Hullo. The price below is the base prices, no seat selection or luggage add ons. The BCF is the reserved “Saver Fare”.</p><p>Hullo: 2 return $157.50 + 2 one way $83.98 = $241.48<br>Hullo: 2 one way $83.98 + 4 one way $167.98 = $251.96<br>BC Ferry: 2+car one way $103.50 + 4+car one way $158.15 = $261.65</p><p>Given that I would have to pay to park the car at the Hullo terminal (&gt;=$19.00) then there is essentially no difference in cost, and the Hullo may even be more expensive.</p><p>Plus there are time savings to driving as well as CO2 benefits in favour of the BC Ferry (as long as it is full) compared to the Hullo ferry.</p><p>BC Ferry it is!</p><p><a href="https://hullo.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">hullo.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br><a href="https://bcferries.com" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">bcferries.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BCFerries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCFerries</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BCPoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCPoli</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Travel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Travel</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Transportation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Transportation</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/ClimateAction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ClimateAction</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/CO2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CO2</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Economics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Economics</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Family" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Family</span></a></p>
Maria Langer | 📝 🎬 ⚒️🛥️<p>Whoa. Just had a near miss with a <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BCFerry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCFerry</span></a> whose captain showed a total disregard for the international Rules of the Road and cut in front of our flotilla at 23 kts. We were clearly the Stand On vessels in this encounter, yet he forced us to stop and even alter course to avoid a collision without so much as a whisper on the radio. I called <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/BCFerries" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BCFerries</span></a> to complain while the Flotilla leader went right to the <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/CoastGuard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CoastGuard</span></a> at Victoria Traffic. <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/boating" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>boating</span></a></p>
