On my way to the Stand Up for Science rally in Washington DC. It's heartening to see so many people standing up for science, not just at the official events in the United States, but also at gatherings being held in other countries.
Why am I going to the rally? Because I value weather forecasts, vaccines, volcano monitoring, and many other gifts that science gives us. I also value the scientists working to bring us those gifts. I want scientists employed by the federal government to be allowed to publish timely information on important subjects like the spread of avian influenza. Finally, I don't want scientists fired without due process.
